Can you use gripe water or infacol with omneo comfort, having a nightmare getting wind up. Very unhappy ds

Gripe water or infacol are both worth a try - can't think why any particular formula would mean you can't...what does HV say? I haven't heard of wind remedies being not usable - they're not medications, anyway, so they're pretty benign.

Clairabelle - this may be totally out of order, but did you breastfeed? Would it be an option to think about starting again? If it is only recently you stopped, you might find it easier than you think to start again...it's just you feel your baby is uncomfortable and you mentioned this on another thread, too, and I wondered if you felt there was a connection with the use of formula and his tummy ache.

Just a thought

I used to add infacol to ds's formula, but it didn't seem to help. What did seem to help was adding a tablespoon or so of strong fennel tea.

tik tok didn't breastfeed. Had gestational diabetes so had an elective c-section and ds had to go to scbu for 24hrs all planned in advance. Thought bottle feeding would be best for him to get his sugars up if neccesary (although they were fine)Didn't breastfeed with dd either as emergency c s and i was very ill afterwards. She had reflux and was on gaviscon. With hindsight probably should have thought more about it as you're probably right and formula is upsetting him but will just have to persevere no hope of staarting after 4 weeks. Will definetely consider bf next time!!!

Ok, CB.

If you wanted to try bf, then it would be possible (though not necessarily easy). At four weeks pp you will probably have some milk still, and if you felt ok about it, you could just have a go at putting the baby to the breast and seeing what happens

If you do a search on these boards or or the web for relactation you'll find out more.

Isn't Mumsnet lovely - I got this tip of Mumsnet myself! When you do your bottle-sterilising routine (I did mine in the evening after putting ds to bed) you make up an extra bottle, no need for a teat, just a sealing cap, with a bag of fennel tea in it. The following morning, the tea has brewed and cooled and you add it to the bottles of formula. It works equally well for breastfeed or combine-fed babies, as then mum drinks the unused tea. I found that the best make of tea was Dr Stuart's Botanicals - the others are all wishywashy. It's particularly good for 'downstairs' wind, but also helps with 'upstairs' wind. What might also help woudl be to try a different make of formula or of teat.

I don't want to push you towards breastfeeding if you're not inclined, but I do know someone who re-lactated after 6wks, though she had been trying to breastfeed at the same time as fully bottlefeeding.

This is pretty good - www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/relactation.html

I'd also suggest you give one of the breastfeeding helplines a call - nothing beats actually asking a real person about it. They won't (or shouldn't) push you into doing it. In any case, it may not be easy (I think I already said that!). You need to be motivated, and you need to do it lots and lots - that's the way your milk supply gets build up so your body 'knows' it needs to get producing. If your baby is happy to latch on, even if there is not a great deal there yet, then truly, you are laughing, as a co-operative baby makes it less hassle.

Also have to say that you may not get a full supply (then again, you might!) but any breastmilk will be good for him. You would need to wind down your use of formula at the same pace as the breastmilk is building up.

Should add - you lose nothing by giving it a try, and you and your baby might like it
