Nipple Blister? Ouch!

I've been breastfeeding DD for 4 months and it has been relatively trouble free (cracked nipples at the beginning, bout of mastitis).

The last couple of days a blister has appeared on the tip of my right nipple. It is so so painful! I looked it up online and it seems to be a milk blister/ plugged duct (I have an issue with over supply) but all the information I've found seems to be from the US.

I went to the doctor earlier, he'd never seen / heard anything loke it before, but confirmed it wasn't anything untoward (don't know how if he hasn't seen it)!

I'm finding it very painful to feed from that side, and keep getting engorged. I don't know what to do. I've tried calling 2 breastfeeding helplines, but both times I've got through (out of lots of tries) I've spoken to their husbands! My local breastfeeding drop in is on Thursdays so I've missed it.

I'm sore, grumpy and a bit lost. Has anyone else had this? What can I do? The doctor told me to put hot compresses on, if it hasn't gone away in a few days he'll syringe it and I don't want that!

Thank you

I had one of these when I was feeding my ds1, I remember it being really painful. I think I got rid of it with hot compresses etc but there's lots of good advice here

I had one last year. Hot compress and then try lifting the edge of the blister with a clean fingernail, don't try poking anything into it as you might introduce bacteria. It will probably take a few goes, meanwhile keep applying heat.

If you can have a hot bath you might be able to remove the top of the bleb and then you will find you either have clogged duct with lots of cheesy milk that comes out in a string or it will spurt everywhere. Either way the relief is immense!

It might take a few days and you do need to keep feeding through the pain to avoid a blocked duct which could lead to mastitis.

Thank you so so much! I hot compressed it and popped it, milk came firing out and it feels much better already! Hopefully it'll heal soon Grin
