Baby weight slipping down percentiles

MissDuffy · 12/07/2012 21:20

DS (6 months) has moved down two percentiles in weight.

His intake of milk has been the same - about 27 ounces a day - for a long time now (FF) and I can't get him to take any more.

He is just starting solids (though not taking purees or anything from spoon so it will have to be BLW).

He is very active (full on crawling and climbing since a few weeks ago) so probably burning up more than he takes in. Why isn't he hungrier though, if using more energy? And how do I stop him from slipping further down the percentile graph? (I know the graph isn't everything but he looks increasingly slender too). He's medium in height.

My DS started slipping down at that age.

Health Visitors could not agree (give him more milk, give him less) so I sought out a weaning "expert".

She basically said not to muck about with gradual weaning, throw food at DS as fast as he will eat it. Shove as much cheese and butter into everything as possible. Cheese on toast is a fab finger food, btw.

It seems to have worked, although he has reverted to some mush at he moment due to bad teething. He is extremely active, never still.

Maybe teething is impacting his appetite? Try some pain relief?

All 3 of my babies moved down the percentiles in the first 6 months. DS1 dropped from 75th to 25th for weight, despite staying around the 98th for height. Like yours, he was an early crawler and very active. He's now 6 and is a strong, healthy boy (although still quite skinny).

Try not to stress if he seems healthy otherwise. Maybe this is just how he's meant to be.
