Strange breast feeding behaviour

My ds 14 weeks has started behaving very strangely when feeding over the last 24 hours. On one particular boob he continually pulls off during feeding. He doesn't cry, just looks about, talks etc. for about 30 secs then immediately wants to go back on he does this whether this boob is offered first or second in a feed and generally feeds normally on the other side. He has once done the same thing on the other side too. Not sure what's going on. He doesn't seem at all distressed so don't think the position is uncomfortable for him. Any ideas anyone?

Perhaps he's not hungry or not hungry anymore and it was just a coincidence that he's done what you describe when offered that boob?
I wouldn't read too much into it. Older babies can become distracted when feeding especially if not very hungry. How often are you offering the boob?

it's not uncommon to have a "favoured" breast. sometimes one produces milk faster or slower than the other.

your ds may just be taking a feeding break, or becoming distracted.

I would keep offering both breasts and switching during feeds which may help to balance supply in both breasts.

I always had one breast that had very fast let down and so used to express off a little before a feed so that my DS didn't end up spluttering with milk everywhere (which sometimes happened).

Thanks. He is feeding every 3 hours or so. I'm offering a feed before he gets to the stage of crying for it. Think I'll let him wait till he's properly hungry and hopefully he will concentrate more.

Babies are very distractable once they get past the newborn stage. Is there anything going on in the background?

I've had to start feeding my 13 week old dd on another sofa or another room as unless she's starving she'll feed for 30 seconds then pull off and start chattering away or laughing or gwaping at something or someone!

DS, almost 13 weeks, does this during his first feed of the morning. You would have thought he'd be starving after such a long break between feeds, but quite often he guzzles, then stops to look up at me with a smile or start chattering away at me. It's adorable, but given the fullness of my breasts in the morning, we do rather get milk everywhere!
