I shoukd know what to do. He's my third. My gut keeps telling me to squirt breast milk up his nose but I'm fairly certain this is not the correct thing to do!?

That should be fine, it will certainly help clear it out anyway. Other things you can try are sticking him in a bouncy chair in the bathroom while you have a hot shower, the steam should help or a nasal aspirator.

MrsApplepants · 05/07/2012 09:30

Nasal aspirators are useful. Saline nose drops ( from chemist) also help to soften all the snot.

TheMysteryCat · 05/07/2012 10:05

agree about nasal aspirators.

Depending on how old your baby is, you could also try putting a drop of the baby karvol on your top relatively near to where his nose is when he feeds which may help.

or there is a really good calpol room plug in that releases light vapours overnight in the room which helps to clear the blocked nose. it's advised as suitable to use from 3 months +

He's almost 3 weeks.

Will try the BM, and saline stuff (yuck) or nasal gadget if I can ge to a pharmacy. Just had a shower.

Oh yes, the nasal aspirator from boots, or the bogey sucker as It's known in our house, was the best £8 I ever spent. It's the one with the tube and the filter that you suck the bogeys through, sounds disgusting but the filter stops them getting in your mouth and it is sooo satisfying getting those bad boys out of DDs nose!

TheMysteryCat · 05/07/2012 10:12

sadly, the karvol and calpol are out then - he's too young.

Showers really helped my little one, so hope that has a good effect for you.

CherryBlossom27 · 05/07/2012 10:13

karvel drops are meant to be good for babies and colds but haven't tried them myself yet!

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 05/07/2012 10:25

Breastmilk also great for his eyes if they all gunky too :)

I find the Sterimar sea water spray best as it has a bit of pressure. Really flushes the gunk out!
