BFing DC2

DC2 is due in early October, and I plan to bf when he/she arrives. I managed to bf DS until I was nearly 2m pg, at which point he gave up (he was 14m) as my supply dipped very noticeably.

I'm wondering if it tends to be easier the 2nd time round, or if it's completely unpredictable? The first 4m with DS were sheer hell (tongue tie and oversupply of astronomical proportions) with bleeding, cracked nipples, 1-2hr feeds, colic, DS choking, both of us getting totally soaked.......

Is there any light in the tunnel approaching me?!

Lurking because I did exactly the same thing, including giving up when dd was 14mo and I was 8 weeks. I will definitely ebf again but I'm hoping for an easier ride this time without the mastitis.

Hi Happy, nice to know there's someone else out there who's "brave" with lots of "stamina" Hmm

Second time around was a lot easier for me in terms of supply, expectations and no mastitis

I only fed my first for 7 weeks but am still going with my second who is 2.5 years

joyful Shock yikes! Never heard of an upper lip tie! Is that some sort of bf nightmare full house?

Thanks for the encouragement ruby & joyful...I suppose I want someone to come on and tell me it will be really easy and I'll have it sorted by day 2. I just remember the hours I spent glued to the sofa (crying in pain) with DS, and am trying to imagine wtf I'll do with DC2 while DS pulls the house to bits around my ears!

DD1 was a nightmare - I expressed 12 times a day for 8 weeks then she bf directly. She had reflux so some days she fed for 1 3/4 hours every 2 hours with lots of vomiting, I rarely left the sofa on those days as she was so unsettled. She did bf until she was 3.6y though so it wasn't all bad!

DD2 was so easy to feed once we had worked out what to do with a newborn (I hadn't really bf a newborn before so no help from MW - Jack Newman videos saved the day) she is bfing at 4.7y.

DD3 was just as easy to bf especially as I had actual practice at feeding a newborn, she is bfing at 2.8y. I just hope DD4 will be as easy to feed!

I am not saying that I didn't have wobbles/issues in the early days of either DD2 or DD3 but on the whole bfing them has been light years away from DD1's experience.

I did do quite a bit of prep work before DD2 was born (not that it helped until we got her latching with Jack's help!) so knew what issues may happen and what to do/where to go so I already had an action plan in place.
