Quick but important question about how much BM a one year old NEEDS...

Basically DS is 1 on Monday and is breastfed. Once a week he spends the day at nursery and usually I would pack him off with two bottles of EBM and then breastfeed him before bed.

This has become increasingly difficult as my supply has reduced and I have managed to leave him with DP over the past couple of days, all day, while I do training with no EBM.

Is he ok now just to have a breastfeed morning or night or does he need more during day? He doesn't seem bothered, eats plenty of solids and is a good weight.

TIA.

I don't think they technically NEED any at all.
My DS just turned 1 too and I only ever bf him at night.
He is a monster eater and I think he has enough dairy in cheese, milk on cereal, yoghurts and for drinks just has water.
I could never be faffed to express and so our bf has gradually wound down since I went back to work when he was 9mo from am, pickup and pm to just at night.
I think the only issue is that your supply will reduce further if you feed less so if you want to continue longer term it might be a risk.

Thanks, I thought that may be the case to be honest. I agree, it is such a faff! Been so busy this week and just forgot to express! I'll feed him in the morning, pick up and at bed, I'm sure he will be fine! Thanks.

I do almost exactly the same as mamdoc. I bf my now 14 month old at bedtime, sometimes in the morning (not on the mornings when it's DH's turn to get up with him at some ungodly hour!), and if he wakes during the night (only about once a week now). He has water through the day (won't touch cows milk), a portion of cheese, a yoghurt, and milk on his cereal. And a vitamin supplement for iron / vit D. I checked this with a friend who is a nutritionist and she said that it sounded fine (have been doing this since he was about 11 months).

Brilliant, thanks! This is why I love MN!

My ds is one tmrw and is with my mum 3 x days per week so I can work. I went back at 9 months and have never left any expressed for him as he wouldn't drink it. He just has food and juice and makes up for it when I return. He really doesnt seem to miss it if i am not there. Your little one will be fine without. Smile
