EBF on demand and snacking/falling asleep (baby!)

If you are BF on demand which I read as putting to breast as soon as they signal/cry do you let them feed as they will until they come off?

The reason I ask is dd2 seems to snack then fall asleep, then cry as soon as I put her down and repeat! So today it's been 25 seperate feed/sleep/on switching from left to right since midnight.

Max length of nurse 18 minutes, minimum 2 minutes! Maximum gap was 1hr45 mins (timing from beginning of last feed) minimum gap 7 minutes!

When I see the 8/10 feeds a day I'm a bit Hmm should I be waking her whilst on the breast to make her feed longer rather than this on,off, lay down, scream?

Its so annoying when they fall asleep during a feed, isn't it? DD was a nighmare with this. First trick was to squeeze my boob so she got some more milk which re-activated the suckig reflex so she'd continue feeding in her sleep. Next trick was to rub her cheek/hands/feet. Next trick was to strip her down to her nappy. Final trick was to change her nappy. Have you tried any of these?
It sounds to me as though your DD is not having 25 separate feeds but is nodding off until something is done which wakes her when she remembers she's hungry so resumes her feed. Its up to you if you wake her on the breast as soon she nods off or if you wake her by lying her down.If she's only had a short initial feed, I'd put her back on the same breast as otherwise she's never going to get to the hind milk.

how old is your baby? A feed is classed as both breasts so does that cut down the no at all. Length of feed marries so much from baby to baby and day to day or as you've noted feed to feed. Its not really an indicator of anything unless you where having long feed with other ongoing problems, ie nipple pain, crying fussy baby, lack of wet nappies.
The best thing really is just to throw out the clock feed baby when hungry and until they fall off on their own. Then repeat.

She's 4 weeks

sounds total normal for her age. I take she's having lots of wet nappies (at least 6 and 2 poo nappies in 24 hours). If your not soure at all then the best thing is to just try just to her behaviour. Do you have a sling? you could try and wait a bit longer before putting her down until she's really floppy.
You may have also hit the 4 week growth spurt and things may be total different today.
Your doing a fab job well done.

Lol my dd is like this. I too used to worry when I saw the 8 feeds in 24 hours thing as with all the faffing about we get sometimes its more like 20 feeds. Some of them only last 30 seconds as something more interesting appears! Or the latest thing is to suck once then start smiling and giggling really loudly! Just go with it. And ditto what someone else said about not switching sides too soon.
