Is this normal....

My 6 week old daughter has the smelliest farts ever! Sounds so juvenile but I'm really worried.
She is passing gas very frequently, about 20 times in any given hour and these are toe curlingly sinky. Is this just her gut maturing with all the 'good' bacteria or is it something I am eating (she has only been bf) having an effect on her?
She only ever moves her bowels every few days (and is always a huge amount when she does) but the smelly gas is new.
She was 7/4 at birth and is now 9/4 so is gaining well.
She does suffer with reflux and we have been given a prescription for Zantac (yet to give her this as I'm not sure about the alcohol content).
Really hoping this is normal for babies of her age and would love some feedback before her 6 week check next week.

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly, but my first born (so no previous experience) is like a comedy fart machine! Very loud long farts! They aren't particularly smelly though. He's 3.5 weeks by the way.

My boy has smelly farts, too, bless him. He's 10 1/2 weeks so a bit older than your dd, and also breast fed. I hadn't actually given it any thought though.

My DS is now 9 months but has had the stinkiest farts ever since birth and it hasn't mattered whether I was BF or FF at the time. I don't think you need to worry much and you can always ask at your 6 week check.

Give the poor mite the zantak though, if it's causing her pain it really is unfair to deny her something that will help. :(

If your baby is sick but still gaining weight and not to unhappy then why dedicate? Some times they seem very keen to dedicate for reflux when there could be an underlying issue that once sorted stops the sickness. Things like food intolerance, oversupply and tough tie can all cause sickness in babys have a read hear kellymom.com/health/baby-health/m2m-reflux/

Hope you find the answer.

As you have the smelly wind with the vomiting I'd really consider whether something you're eating is upsetting her stomach.
We had the same issue with cows milk (the most common culprit) but had it much more severely as it turns out she's allergic...
Um, anyway. If you also get green poos which give her a sore bum or nappy rash and they smell v foul or like vinegar then this could be something to eliminate from your diet.
Also if she is really screaming in pain for many hours a day with the pain/reflux then could be an intolerance/allergy upsetting her

Mine too! Dd's trumps cause grandparents to hand her back. Hv said it was fine and possibly linked to infrequent bowel movements.
