Thrush or Teeth?

My DD is a year old. (just) I feed her from one breast only and other than some soreness for a couple of weeks, no cracking/bleeding etc, I have never had any pain/discomfort feeding her from that side, other than a tiny bit when her top two teeth were coming through a few months ago.

For the last week or so I have been getting more sore when DD feeds and also in between feeds, for example, if my clothing rubs on my nipple. I have also noticed that my nipple does look slightly pinkish compared to normal and there is a small whitish spot in the middle of it, although it doesn't look like a milk blister to me. It just looks like a small area of whiter skin.

During feeds it feels like DD's teeth are rubbing on my nipple, which I wonder if it could be that my nipple is not far enough back on her mouth and is actually rubbing on her hard palate (seeing as I'm pretty certain it can't actually be her teeth!). The latch looks OK from the outside, but DD does sometimes pull back with my nipple in her mouth and stay like that for a while, although she has done that for ages and it's never been sore before.

So I wonder if it might be thrush? I can't see anything in DD's mouth, although she's not co-operative and I have had umpteen courses of antibiotics whilst breastfeeding without getting thrush and am not prone to thrush, so think it's unlikely.

Any ideas? If it is teeth/teething is it likely to just improve by itself or is there anything I can do to help things improve now? I have to admit, it's putting me off feeding her. Blush

Can see why it would put your off feeding her and sorry that I haven't really got any advice. Have you tried one of the helplines? When I was having problems with DC1 at 7 months I gave one a call and they were great. The problem stopped quickly and I was able to continue feeding.
