Will my DD ever get the hang of feeding?!

Im sorry if this gets long but would really appreciate any input you can offer

DD was induced due to her heart rate dropping, but was full term (39 weeks) and born without any real trauma, Right from the start she was sleepy and refused the breast, despite having a tongue tie cut and getting tonnes of help from the breast feeding support nurses she just wouldnt do it, the minute she went on the breast she went to sleep and would often only accept one short breast feed a day. I the end I was advised to bottle feed her, which I did, offering the breast first then giving her expressed milk, however after three weeks my supply stopped pretty much over night so she had to be switched to formula

Shes remained pretty hit and miss, I was advised not to wake her for feeds which I didnt and ive very much been led by her needs - this seemed to work ok for the past 4 weeks (shes nine weeks old now) she never really takes the quanitity that the formula recomends but shes gaining weight well and is a happy healthy baby so ive not worried about that. Two weeks ago she started going to sleep at 9 ish and that was it, she would refuse her last feed and then sleep until five the next morning. Shortly after this she started taking five big feeds in the day so she was getting her recomended amount however she has now stopped again, shes sleeping through feeds in the day so im having to wake her, shes not taking as she should (she should be on 180mls now, shes averaging one or two, then the rest about 120mls) and shes still sleeping 9-5

what do I do? do I leave her and assume that she will sort herself out? do I wake her and feed her? shes dribbling and spitting milk out when I wake her at the moment so shes clearly not hungry and Im getting slowly more stuck!

Sounds a bit like ds1. Is she quite a small baby? If so she may not need as much as the tub recommends. Ds1 was only on about 90-120mls every 3 hrs at 9 weeks old as thats all he wanted. He's now 2 years old and very tall for his age and eats loves food. I wouldn't worry if she's following a centile line nicely but if you are worried take her to your gp or a clinic or phone your health visitor.
It could also be that she's just had a growth spurt, both my sons had/have days where they fed loads and then became very sleepy for a couple of days afterwards, they did that every time they had a growth spurt.

shes about 11lbs now (she was 10lb7 last monday, and she has gained since her clothes are fitting better!) so not tiny, shes following the 25th percentile nicely - im at a loss what to do, Im thinking about sticking to 3 hour feeds but just giving her smaller quantities for now until shes ready to up it again do you think that sounds reasonable?

If she taking 120ml bottles then perhaps offer her 150mls so she always has the option of taking more but don't try and force her. Try not to worry though if she's gaining well and seems happy and healthy. What's on the box is just a guideline of how much most babies should be having but not all babies will follow that. You do sound quite worried though so it may be a good idea to get some reassurance from your Health visitor.
