DD won't take a bottle , or formula . We tried her on 3 occasions when she was about 3 months, and she projectiled vomited the whole bottle up , including subsequent breasted . I didn't dare try again . I now want to combine feed but am not sure what to do .

Does she go to any kind of childcare? My attempts with DC1 were hopeless but she started nursery at 6mo and they slowly, patiently, day by day, got her to drink formula from a bottle.

Can you express some to start with and try that? Perhaps she is lactose intolerant and you have to try a different formula?

If no childcare, ask a willing grandmother? My own mum was very helpful, spent ages trying!

She won't be in childcare till January . She use to take expressed milk , but won't now , plus it takes me forever to get just 4oz.

I've never enjoyed breastfeeding but kept pushing on, but now id like to reduce it .

What are you doing about weaning? Once you get yoghurt and cheese into her diet, the feeds will drop off a bit anyway.

What about a sippy cup/doidy cup if a bottle won't work?

ArcticRain · 18/06/2012 21:32

Started weaning a couple of weeks ago , and she is taking little bits but nothing much. Maybe a spoon full at each meal and sucking on finger foods . She seems to love meat but I feel nervous about her taking control of it. She still feeds every 2 - 3 hours at night , and is fairly small.

Started her on a sippy cup but she is still getting use to it .

If she threw up its likely she's intolerant to cows milk so giving her formula now won't help.

You will find in a couple of months that her solids intake will increase and you can reduce feeds. Have you thought about night weaning with just keeping one feed?

PoppyWearer · 18/06/2012 21:37

You could try the soya or goat's milk formulas?

Iggly · 18/06/2012 21:45

Soya and goats milk can do similar if you're intolerant (both of mine are).

It's worth checking out - it could be a reason for the regular night feeds too if you eat dairy. Best to know especially if you notice any side effects after cheese/yogurts etc.

ArcticRain · 18/06/2012 21:48

Im not sure whether its too early for night weaning ? She still seems to need it , and is only 9th centile so it makes me nervous.

My mother and brother are lactose intolerant and can't have any dairy , however DD seems ok on a spoonful of yoghurt . Can't remember if lactose is killed by the fermentation process . Is there anyway of testing for intolerance ?

Id like to try the Soya but its a lot to pay out for a tin if she doesn't take if . It also says for proven intolerance , but it isn't inferior to normal formula is it , so why does it say that on the tin? Guess I should speak with the HV?

Try no dairy for a bit (2 weeks) and see how she fares.

I don't mean fully night wean, just no feeds say between 12 & 5am? So only a five hour chunk but might be enough to make you feel rested.

Lactose intolerance is rare in babies (happens in adults though) - lactose is in your BM - it's likely to be intolerant to cows mill protein if there is an issue. My DS is intolerant - yoghurt makes him windy, milk makes him sick.
