BF newborn, poo is now more brown than yellow?

DS1 is now 2 wks old, I'm BF and its going okay (most of the time). The latest change is he becomes very restless, pulls back, de-latches and goes back on but seems very frustrated with the whole thing. This usually happens afternoons/evenings - I'm thinking i'm not producing enough milk and he's still hungry. I have checked and some milk does come out but only from the bottom of the nipple??
He has gained some weight this week, does the nappy quota but yesterday/today his nappies are now more brown than yellow. I told midwife who said that brown is usually a sign of hunger but as weight gain will keep monitoring for now.
We've got him on colief at the minute because he seems to be in a lot of discomfort with wind (bottom end only).
Does this all seem fairly typical? Midwife due back Tuesday....
Apologies for spelling, i'm so blinking tired these days,

Did the brown poo coincide with you giving him coleif or anything else other than breastmilk, swivel?

SwivelHips · 16/06/2012 18:02

Oh that's a good point, we put him on infacol and changed to colief so it probably coincided with that. His weight gain was only 3 ounces, to me he looks very thin but does seem contented when he doesn't have wind.

I think it's a good idea to follow what the m/w says and to have him checked over again on Tues.

Any blocked ducts?

SwivelHips · 16/06/2012 19:08

I don't think so, I've had some swelling around areola caused by his pulling I think. Im not sure exactly what it would look like.
Tonight he's done a very big watery poo and there was a yellow twinge to it.
Watching him feed now he starts off fine after about 15 mins he gets frustrated. He also starts pulling his legs up and grimacing. Sigh....

That whole grimacing thing at that age- perfectly normal. Horrible to watch, but normal. Check your breasts for lumpy bits which don't go away after feeding from those sides. These could be blocked ducts.
