6 month old bf dropping centiles

Does anyone have any experience/ideas what could be causing this? Ds2 is bf and feeds very frequently (at least every 2 hours during the day, sometimes more often, and 1-3 times at night). For the first 4 months, his weight gain followed a centile closely, but since then has slowed down and has dropped a centile. We only started weaning (blw) a couple of weeks ago, so it's too early to drop any feeds.

I don't think I can really increase the bf as it often feels like he spends all day feeding as it is. Does anyone else have any experience of this? I don't have any other concerns, he has wet and dirty nappies, is alert and interested in the world around him, can sit up and reach for things,

Has he started crawling? My ds started shedding his pudge at an alarming weight when he got active. If all else seems ok, I really wouldn't worry. My health visitor got a proper bee in her bonnet about it and wouldn't accept that he crawled stupidly early and then began naturally to shed his (vast) excess weight. Perfectly normal imo.

He's not crawling yet. He does like being in his bouncer (he's really jumpy in that), but a lot of the time he watches to see what his big brother will do next. He finis his last feed a hour ago and is now having more.

But he is more active and so burning calories. My baby hasn't dropped a centile but can you try offering the boob more? We're also blw here and it was especially slow-going for the first 6-8 weeks. Two important questions for you to bear in mind: is he satisfied (not 'starving') and healthy/happy? If so, I probably wouldn't worry. But I would offer more boob. Make sure the solids he is taking in aren't filling him up too much (eg whole grain food).

Dropping a centile is well within normal range - doesn't seem to be any reason to worry, or even to weigh him. Good practice with healthy babies is to weigh no more often than every 2 mths after the age of 6 mths.

Thanks Ginger, with regards to offering more feeds, well, he's just started feeding again. This is fine when I'm at home, but makes leaving the house difficult.

For food, he hasn't had anything wholewheat yet. Mostly fruit, veg and ricecakes so far. Some food is going in, some falls out again, and lots is getting smeared everywhere.

Thanks Tiktok. I haven't been getting him weighed regularly as I didn't have any concerns. I just wanted to know his weight at the start of weaning. He was weighed in March, once in April (when he had gone down a little which I put down to different equipment), then yesterday, when the drop was more pronounced. He is putting weight on, just slowly.

Dh tells me I'm worrying about nothing, I was curious what might be suggested, other than feed him even more.

I had this with ds. He was born on 25th centile and slowly dropped down to 2nd from about 6 months onwards where he has been for sometime, he's 6 in August. He was chubby up until about a year old and now is slim. Someone's got to be on that centile and it's my ds :)
