When do bf babies become more 'efficient'

Just that really. Dd has been bf. for 14 looooong weeks. We've been dealing with reflux n slowly getting somewhere. But still with feeds the girl will b at it any time for 20 mins to an hour and sometimes more!! Now I've started going to baby groups I'm seeing mums feed their babies (of similar age may I add) 5-10 mins job done!!!!!!! What the?!?!?! When do I get that?!?! Even for a couple if feeds a day?!

When they eat a reasonable amount of real food.

I'm not sure DD2 ever became more efficient, still liked long feeds. However, she would substitute some with yoghurt and juice.

This also allowed Mum sneak to the swimming pool one evening a weekGrin

It varies a lot, you might get a dozen anecdotal responses and none of them match your child. Sorry!

Mine was always done and dusted in 10 min, but would be back on and hour later. They're all different Sad Grin

Sorry nothing more to add Wink

Problem is everytime you think they're getting more efficient, the little buggers have a growth spurt and want to be attached to the boob 24/7.
You realise the way to insanity is comparing your baby to others at baby group, don't you Melliebobs? Smile

Oh I know. I will stop this behaviour now Grin

My DD has gone the other way, she'd feed for 5 mins one side per sitting, now its 10 to 20 mins and sometimes both sides... however she was 6 weeks early, came home from hospital with a feeding tube and was only EBF from 10 weeks.

As previously mentioned, they're all different

Are you switch-nursing? My baby was a loooong feeder at the start, but in retrospect I wonder how much of that time he was actually milk and how much he was just sucking the nipples. I'll try switch nursing in future to get the milk bit over with sooner.

I keep her on one side a feed which was recommended when I spoke to bfn lady and a local bf support team. Infact local bf team rung me today n they said 20-40 mins is a good feed. Longer at this stage is probably comfort. Especially when she was doing 90+ in the bad reflux stage so it's ok to stop if I hit 40 n shell let me know if she wants more Grin
