11-month-old and solids/BF - sorry if it's a dumb question!

Hello all,

Been breastfeeding my DS for 11 months now, after a rocky start where he was given formula following blood sugar issues we got to 6 months EBF. He's taking to solids well, still BFs plenty and has the odd bottle of formula when I am at work. I still offer milk before solids. He has water at meal times and recently we've started offering a tiny bit of cow's milk in a beaker to see if he'll accept it - he loves it!

I have always fed on demand and offered a BF before solids and at various times in the day if it's been a little while since his last milk feed. I just wondered, as we get close to the year, what the plan should be? Do solids take precedence over milk feeds at this point?

I never expected to get this far with BF. I planned 6 months, revised it down to 3 when we had problem after problem, and then stopped planning altogether after about 6 months as it comes so naturally now. I thought I'd stop when he got his first teeth - he's now got 6. I am aiming for a year but not sure now when we'll stop... I never really enjoyed BF to begin with, it's funny how things change.

If your heading down the baby led weaning approach then still feed on demand. The only thing you need to change is they recommend offering food before milk after 1. He'll start reducing his milk intake natural as he increase solids. But toddlers often nurse for other reasons not just for food.
Oh it's also a great tool to distract a toddler who's having a tantrum. If you haven't already read the blog breastfeeding in Mongolia.
