I think I will have to ff my baby at least partly. Long story but we have both tried so hard to bf and it is just not working. I feel v depressed about this (not sure why as I was formula fed myself and I turned out fine, but you know... :) :/). So what's the best formula brand? Is there one that you would really recommend?

They are nutritionally all basically the same. Buy one that is stocked in your local corner shop/late night supermarket.

Do you want to talk about the breast-feeding stuff at all?

SpottyTeacakes · 13/06/2012 17:46

I think you have to find a good one for your dc, different babies can suit different ones I think....

But if you care about ethics steer clear of SMA

Have you asked for advice on the breastfeeding on here already? There are a lot of experienced posters who may be able to help you save it.

We used aptimil to combine feed our dc when they were babies. They both liked it and didn't have any trouble with constipation etc. They are all very similar though.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 13/06/2012 18:05

Aptimil worked fir us! :) settled best for dd1 :)

BettyandDon · 13/06/2012 18:12

We started with SMA then moved to Aptamil as DD had funny tummy on SMA but I know others who did the opposite. It may be that the 1st formula after BF may be tricky on the tummy.

I think the best selling one is Aptamil. It gets the most space/best position in stores so I assume do knowing what I do about supermarkets. Cow & Gate is made by the same people though and is very similar except for 1 ingredient or so and it is cheaper £1-2 per tin. If I FF again I may try that one as it's quite serious money over a long time unfortunately. BF was impossible for me so don't feel at all bad for your choice if you've tried all you canSmile. Before you know it they'll be eating sandwiches and crisps...

We got on best on cow and gate, starting with the colic one then moving on to standard, I think different brands suit different babies, good luck.

We couldn't breast feed either, it really got to me too but it's so much better to have a full baby and a happy mummy then to struggle on. Enjoy your baby

Aptamil.

Friends had all kinds of issues with SMA and C&G. To do with the parts of the milk they use?

I mix-feed and both DCs have coped fine with Aptamil supplementing breast milk. (I have issues with one nipple so can only feed one-sided.)

Am a committed bf'er but you've done your best, if it's not working, don't beat yourself up. Well done for trying, many don't!

We were told by a neo-natal nurse that there's not a lot to choose between them. But she reckoned that once you'd started on one brand, it was best not to chop and change.

We use Cow & Gate and DS has been fine with that.

milkysmum · 15/06/2012 21:45

I have mix fed both my dc's with Aptamil and they got on fine with that brand.

tiktok · 15/06/2012 22:04

There's no evidence that chopping and changing is 'wrong' - this is another marketing myth :)

Individual babies may well seem to prefer/tolerate one brand better than another, and it's fine to do a bit of product research to find this out.

ScooseLooseAbootThisHoose · 15/06/2012 22:05

I used sma

Xmasbaby11 · 15/06/2012 23:11

Aptamil works very well for us.
