When your periods came back, did you ever have a period and then maybe not have another for a couple of months?

Anyway, just wanted to add thanks in advance for sharing.

With DS they came back really early (about 4 months, then regular from 6 months). I was gnashing my teeth as he was still feeding plenty at night, and went on to feed until 2yrs.

With DD I went on mini-pill when she was 6 weeks old, then implant when she was 15 months. Didn't have a period for about 3 yrs! She's 3.5 now and still has 1-2 feeds a day. Periods all over the place, but that's down to the implant I think...

Yes. I had my first period after having my son when he was 17 months old. Then nothing for another 4 months. Then found out I was 6 weeks pregnant when I started feeling sick. My daughter is now 6 months old, breastfeeding, so no periods back yet.

YoulllaughAboutItOneDay · 12/06/2012 11:09

With DD1 they came back at 8 months. With DD2 at 6. Was particularly galled by the second since she still fed every 2 hours round the clock. Regular from the start, but particularly heavy and painful.

choceyes · 12/06/2012 11:11

I had my first period back with DD when she was 16 months old. And I think I missed it the month after that, and since then it's been every 5/6 weeks or so, slowly becoming more and more regular. Used to be every 4 weeks +/- 2 days.

ShowOfHands · 12/06/2012 11:16

This is NORMAL. One period and then nothing for a while. It's just the hormonal adjustment.

EauRouge · 12/06/2012 11:38

Oh good, after DD1 mine started back like clockwork so I was a bit worried that this time I've had a couple and then nothing for a few weeks now... I do want another DC but not bloody yet! Grin

Thanks everyone.

Sorry about the short reply before, was bfing. Grin

I researched it after having dd and the same thing had happened. It's apparently v common and it's just because your hormones are all over the place still. It can take a while to settle down. Likewise, the first few cycles are often not actually true cycles ie you ovulate v late and have a short luteal phase or don't ovulate at all.

If there's a chance you could be pg, I'd test to be on the safe side as there's still a chance of conception but a period and then a break post ebf is normal.

DS1 14months, but I had been on the mini pill and periods came back when I stopped.

DS2 16months, but they stopped again due to some medication I had to take. I will be interested to see if they come back again once I am off the meds or if they will stay away.

choceyes · 12/06/2012 14:20

I wish my periods stayed away permanently TBH! Don't want anymore children and my periods post kids seem to be soooo much heavier, and I feel so weak too. Anyone else experienced this? Although they are less painful than before kids.

TruthSweet · 12/06/2012 14:26

Mine were regular from 9 weeks with DD1 (though only mainly pumped until 8 weeks), and with DD2 were regular from 11m until I got pg with DD3 at 13m pp. After DD3 they were regular from 11m pp until I started treatment for pre-cancerous cervical cells when DD3 was just 2y.

I have heard though that stopping and starting is normal but that it does mean LAM is no longer effective (or you are already pg Wink).

EauRouge · 12/06/2012 15:36

Shhhh, Truth, I am not pregnant Angry Grin

Gah, I suppose that means we will have to start using contraception. The 'too knackered' approach seems to have been effective in preventing pregnancy in the past.

No you are NOT pg

EauRouge · 12/06/2012 15:53

Yes, I will have to be a responsible grown-up now.
