Why are our evenings are so hard?

My baby won't take a dummy (I have tried). Yest she spends most evenings fretting, crying, fussing, wanting to be fed (ebf) but coming off the breast crying, then immediately crying to go back on again and frantically sucking her fist.

She only does this in the evenings, never during the day or through the night.

What's going on and how can I help her and us?

Have a read of this from the wonderful Kellymom. It is completely normal. Smile

How old is she? How does she eventually go to sleep? My baby will nibble endlessly sometimes as he tries to settle himself without quite being able to. Try other things to calm your baby: singing/rocking etc, perhaps even while giving the breast.

Sounds like cluster feeding

How old is your DD?

She is 3 months but was premature. Corrected age is 6 weeks.

My older dd did cluster feeding but this is much fussier - she seems to think she wants the breast but then pulls away crying, then goes straight back on, then off, on, off - feels like I'm wrestling with her sometimes.

It usually stops by about 9.30pm and she sleeps well - feeding every 2-3 hours in the night but sleeping well in between.

That kellymom link was very reassuring, thanks for that.

Is she looking to suckle but not take milk? The amount of times my baby has unlatched when milk's arrived ... I'm sure it'll pass soon x
