Help! 5 mo keeps feeding, won't sleep and being sick

Don't know what to do, 5mo DS2 being a pickle. He's currently sat on my lap as having tried putting him in his cot he just moaned for yet another feed. Think its been 4/5 times since 7pm.

So he falls asleep on me, once I tried putting him upstairs, he woke up crying again, so stayed awake then did a nice big poo. Another feed, tries falling asleep again, I move him to the sofa then he wakes up crying again. Inbetween all this, I'm burping him as much as I can but he keeps being sick, curdled milk that is very acidy smelling, poor chap. He's now done his 5th poop of the day!

What could be the problem? He is ebf, have not yet tried a bottle or started weaning, has no known allergies and has been doing 4/5 poops a day for the last few days.

Have you checked his temp? Are his poops runny?

Haven't checked temp, will do that now. His poops have these flecks in, have been fairly runny, not his usual thick bf mustard poo, quite thin really. He grunts a bit just before and when doing them, the first was at 5.30am, that was fun!

Temp 36.3 so very normal. He seems happy, he dribbles a lot, but has always been a very gooey baby. He is on his front a lot as he just rolls onto his tummy which has caused some of the sicking

9mo ds is exactly the same when teething. Rancid, acrid poos which are frequent, runny and flecked, lots of feeding due to sore gums (overfeeding leading to being sick) and waking crying. He did it for the first time and then 3 days later (and about 20 dirty nappies) two teeth popped through at the same time.

Could be all sorts of things but teeth are a possibility.

Thanks ShowOfHands I did wonder about teething, DS1 was 13mo when he cut his first tooth so all the signs have been very different and he reacted very differently to it.

Should I just carry on feeding as he demands even though he is overfeeding? He's a big baby (think almost 20lb) and has 2/3 night feeds anyway. With any luck he might last longer at this rate!

He's just fallen asleep on the floor on his tummy and now I'm too afraid to move him!

How's things this morning?

My dd didn't have any teeth until over a year either and we had almost no problems. DS on the other hand has been more to schedule and we've had all sorts of problems. He has had pneumonia a couple of times and whilst in the throes of it, several GPs have commented on how other things (feeding constantly, rancid poos, waking crying) were teething on top of it. Made for a completely miserable baby. And they've been right every time. You should never put anything down to teething. You rule every other possibility out first. But sometimes it is 'just' teething that's the problem.

I've had two big babies thus far. DD was 25lbs at your ds's age and I have only ever fed on demand. Any overfeeding during teething has always sorted itself out with them bringing a bit back up afterwards. A bf baby should self regulate. I never, sadly, saw any link between increased feeds and better sleep. DD wasn't a sleeper and didn't sleep through till she was 2. DS has slept through from being tiny and sleeps well at night as his default.

Hi Show, he's good today, not feeding as often and only 3 poops which are not as flaky. He's not slept brilliantly today but his routine isn't fantastic and 23mo brother wakes him easily if he's asleep downstairs. Is his usual happy self though which is lovely. Has fallen asleep on the boob now so will put him in the cot soon.

woah, very big babies! DS2 isn't as good an overnight sleeper as his brother was at this age but he will sleep through eventually I expect, he comes into bed with me for the first night feed then wakes up when we do.

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated
