Does some people's milk go off quicker than others?

I've read a few posts on here in the past that describe how some people's milk tastes soapy after freezing whereas some people's doesn't and I was wondering whether this also applies to how long it stays fresh for?

For some reason my milk always seems to have a slight sour taint when I smell it after only 2 days. I think the BfN say it's ok for up to 8! I keep it right at the back of the fridge and have tried different fridges when staying with various people but it always seems to be the same so I just never keep it for longer than 48 hours.

Is it possible my milk just goes off quickly?

It could be your fridge isn't cold enough! The 8 days is for BM stored above freezing but below 4C - so might be worth checking the fridge temp (I know a lot of fridges can be set much higher than

If it is a lipase issue I think scalding the milk before freezing it can help - so this might also be true before refrigerating? Not sure.

I had this and apparently it is due to lipase excess. You can scald it ( 62.5 degrees C for a minute) or your baby might not mind the taste, as posters said above.

I found the scalding put paid to my expressing - a step too far in a faffy process!

Hmm yes...that may indeed be a step too far. Such a pain as I have been getting really into expressing again as ds is such a fussy feeder that this has been a way to be able to go out again for longer periods of time without needing to scuttle home again for a feed. Maybe I will try him one day with milk that I think smells a bit and see what the reaction is. And to be honest it's not too much of a problem as I seem to be able to get a full feed's worth in one go most of the time. Good to know the explanation though!
