Inverting teats (not as interesting as it sounds!)

Hi all

I wonder if anyone has experienced the following with Tommee Tippee bottles? When my daughter feeds, shortly after starting the teat starts to disappear back in to itself, so I have to stop her feeding and undo the bottle slightly to pop the teat out. I have to do this a few times per feed. Additionally she is very messy and has milk dribbling everywhere. She has been exclusively breast fed until about 4 weeks ago when we started mixed feeding, so I am not sure if the problems above are just her getting used to a bottle or a problem with teats we're using.

Also, the dribbling-because of the inverted teats or because she's more used to breastfeeding? Has anyone else had excessive dribbling/leaking without the teat problem?

I used these bottles and same size teats for my first daughter, but she was bottle fed from birth so didn't seem to have this problem.

We're using the vari flow teats which I think are for all ages and my daughter is 7 months. I've tried sippy cups but because they're free flow, that creates a whole new set of problems with a super tidal wave of milk everywhere......

Thanks .

Yep I've had this problem too! I'm using the medium flow teats though not the vari flow. It only seems to happen when they are new.

Have the vari flow ones got the little air valve thingy ? I had to sort of squeeze it open from the inside wheni was washing them, I think they are still kind of sealed when you first buy them so the air can't get I as it should. Once they're unsealed you can see the bubbles in the milk as the air gets in.

I've also got the dribbling problem! Shes now nine months and has been mix fed since she was 7 months. I started on the size 1 teats which are from newborn and was reluctant to move up a size because of the dribbling but she was taking ages so switched to the next size. She still dribbles the same amount so I don't think it's to do with it coming out too quick.

It happens regardless of the inverted teats. I thought it might be because shes used to bf too. I've tried feeding in different positions, sitting up or more reclined but she still dribbles loads!

Hi thanks for that- I'll see if I can sort out the valve and if that makes a difference....

It'll be that the valve is stuck - I found that with my Tommee Tippee bottles, I have to squeeze the valve open when washing them, and then they don't fold in on themselves.
