how much do i need to express?

DS is nearly 8mo. He is dairy and soy intolerant and has been bf.. at some point I will have to return to work and I'm wondering whether I can do so without having to put him on formula when he goes to nursery (8-6, 3 days a week).

At the moment he still has about 6bf a day along with 3 meals. I express every morning to provide milk for cereal - it takes an hour to produce 120ml. This is enough for 2 breakfasts so I tend to freeze every other day and can use this for making custard etc.

During the day his feeds are about 5 mins long but longer at tea time, his bed time and an evening dream feed.. Dd gave up day time feeds at 8mo although Fed morning and evening until 17mo so we stuffed her full of cheese and yoghurt during the day to get other milk into her.

If DS does the same, and given that dairy isn't an option, how much expressed milk will I realistically need for drinking/cooking?

At home expressing is ok (although I don't want to spend all day doing it with 2 dcs to entertain) but it might be challenging at work. HR are happy that the toilet is an appropriate place to express. I'd prefer to use a meeting room but there are days that they are all booked so might have to go to my car. But obviously if I'm away from my desk the work I can do is limited since I can't take my pc with me or get onto the network.

Is there an obvious solution that I'm overlooking? or will I need to go to gp and get some appropriate formula?

How old will he be when you return to work?

Hopefully I can stay off until he's 11mo. Possibly even 12mo. If its 12mo I guess I can get away with 2bfs a day and oat milk for cooking.

Should think that at 11 months he will be fine doing that too, but you might want to check with a BFC Smile.

the law says that the toilet is not an appropriate place to express so they need to find you somewhere more suitable.
