DS is 15 months old and has always been a fast feeder and DH has always been able to settle him if he wakes from a bad dream or something. In recent weeks he is taking at least 45 minutes for his middle of the night feed, as opposed to 10-25 minutes, and I'm aware that the bulk of this he isn't feeding, just nursing and using me as a dummy. Any attempt to give him his dummy and put him down is met with a tantrum and sobs. :(

Daytime feeds before naps are the same. He just wants to nurse constantly and doesn't want to be put down. My nipples are getting sore as after he has fed and wants to use me as a dummy his latch goes to pot.

If poor DH goes into his room when he cries he has a total meltdown and kicks/scratches/pinches dh. :(

What on earth is going on? Help please.

Sounds so familiar - you're not alone! I discovered a budding tooth and DS seems to have had a real developmental leap in the last week or so, so could be either/both. He's been waking/not settling 2-3 times a night.

At 4am last night DH managed to settle him (first time in AGES) so maybe we're getting passed it Hmm

I'm also feeling the pressure to gradually stop BFing - or at least encourage him to just have morning/night feed. I do love the intimacy of it, and he clearly loves it too, just feel like I need some freedom to work and live, and have, dare I say it, a night away.

Thanks for sharing and for calming words MarsLady.

DS has cut a tooth and has another on the way. Like you Tancub I think DS has had quite a developmental leap in the past few days - trying to say more words, climbing on bigger things etc. Here's hoping it's the beginning of the end to the broken nights. That being said, he was up at midnight last night and I fed him.

My pleasure lovely ladies. Oh and you don't have to stop bfing until you or the LOs want to. Once you're passed this little hiccough it will all seem fine again. Smile

We are still battling on and poor DS is defintely teething so I think lots of it is for comfort. We were up twice last night and three times the night before. Yaaaaawn!

Well he's 18 months now and getting worse if anything - up at least twice for feeds every night! Goes ballistic if DH goes into him but calms and grins as soon as he sees me.

Can't do this any more - when DH is off work for a week (in a couple of weeks) we are going to night wean him, by which I mean, DH will be going into DS and not me! We hope that within a couple of sleepless nights he will get the message.

Please tell me I'm not evil. Sob.
