feeding a toddler and going overdue

I am getting heartily sick of pregnancy, and have noticed a lot of stuff regarding nipple stimulation to try and bring on labour - the idea being that you stimulate nipples to make them think* that they are being fed from, and oxytocin is released, thus bringing on labour.

I just wondered, if anyone has any anecdotal (or proper evidence) that this works, and if so, does nursing a toddler stimulate nipples enough to bring on labour? and if so, would it only help if you go overdue?

has anyone bfed a toddler and still ended up going overdue/being induced?

*not sure nipples think, but you know what I mean :o

Anecdotally it didn't make a bit of difference to me, I was 11 days 'over' with both DDs (I think I just have long pregnancies). I was mightily peed off, I was convinced that BF would help Grin

Good luck, hope it happens for you soon.

Have you tried eating pineapple curry and driving down a bumpy road whilst bouncing on a trampoline? Wink

I think like all the things that "they" say induce labour, they only work if you were just about to go into labour anyway!

I went two days over with ds2, but ds1 wasn't feeding that much round that time anyway.

LOL at thinking nipples!

:o ds has playgroup tomorrow, do you think they would mind me feeding him on the little trampoline whilst eating pineapple curry?!
