tips for cracked nipples

I've got a small crack on my left nipple which is making feeding quite painful. DD is nearly 17m so I can't really remember how to deal with cracks and how long they take to heal. I used to use lansinoh, but I don't have any and I'm not buying some just for this, would vaseline work?
Also, any ideas why this has happened? Not had any problems for well over a year.

Hi, I can't help with why it might have happened but you could try jelonet dressing... Moist healing. Mind you it costs as much as the lansinol. I got trial sachets of lansinol from my HV so worth asking.

Huh

Lansinoh ( not sure if I have spelt that right Confused ) you can buy it off amazon cheaper than in the shops. It's great stuff and you don't have to wipe it off to feed either.

thanks for the replies, my mum reckons the best thing is to dab some milk on it and leave it to air lol. Looking very dignified as I type this, I'm sure you can imagine :/

I got a sheet of Jelonet from a pharmacy for 80p which lasted ages as I only cut off what I needed each time and resealed it. I was also prescribed a steroid cream by my GP but although this worked really well I did have a huge hole/wound on my nipple and this was a last resort.

Jelonet - pennies from any pharmacy. Works a treat.
