Normally ds poos all the time but there's been nothing now for over 24 hours. He's feeding as normal and there are plenty of wet nappies....do I need to worry about this sudden change? BTW he's 6 weeks old

Nothing to worry about and totally normal. Some BF babies only go once a week! Just be prepared for a big one when it comes!

Wormshuffler · 29/05/2012 08:58

My dd goes once every 3 days . I call it poomaggedon day.

ilovespinach · 29/05/2012 09:19

not to worry then :) I will await the pooexplosion :)

Way back in 2010 when DS was a newborn and EBF I remember posting in a panic about him not pooing for around 10 days. In the end he did (had to use goggles and protective plastic clothing to clean it) and he's now a healthy 2.4 year old :)

Await the poonami and make sure to have lots of wipes to hand.

is it really worries u my hv told me to put a tsp of prune juice in some water and give it, i personally used sugar water but they frown on that for some reason but it worked!

RobinSparkles · 29/05/2012 10:28

I've read that it's normal because the BM is so good for them that they're not producing any waste or something like that.

Houseworkprocrastinator · 29/05/2012 10:36

My eldest went only once a week.

showtunesgirl · 30/05/2012 09:58

lilybeansmummy neither prune juice OR sugar water is a good idea. Young babies are only supposed to have BM or formula.

With regards poo, my DD is a poo monster, usually 3 times a day and the BIG ones are in the morning.

My hv said for me to eat tinned mandarin oranges to help my son go when he was breastfeedimg ..... Boy did it work
.......up to his arm pits, vest in bin and sofa needed washing !!

ilovespinach remember being in the same situation a few weeks ago with my ds. He was an every day/several times a day poo-er but then nothing for a few days. We were Shock and on poo watch every day worrying but really is normal as others have said.

We have noticed that these spells (my ds is 13 weeks) do seem to coincide with his growth spurts. So had this at 6 weeks and 12 again - he was simply burning it all up. Could be related to his growth spurt perhaps...

If you have a DP you could play the game me and DP play during the no-poo periods....nappy lottery. Take it in turns to change him as eventually one of you is going to lose much to the entertainment of the one who doesn't have to deal with it Grin

DD (nearly3) was reciting the days of the week earlier: "Monday Tuesday Wednesday POO-DAY Friday Mummy wash all the poo clothes". That's about right! Except I normally wash the poo clothes same day, actually... Grin. DS is 14w now. Vaguely remember DD being the same and having the same worry.

By the way if you're observant enough you get to recognise the signs that the Big One is coming. Lots of squirming, wriggling, generally being unsettled, fussy over feedings... if it's a weekend and we're playing Nappy Roulette, I try to get a quick change in at the first sign of this so that DH lands the stinker. He can't figure out how come he loses every time!
