Increasing supply

I know the best thing to do is feed feed feed but what else can I do?

I had problems with Raynauds so just about stopped feeding from one side but now I've sorted it out I want to start feeding more from that side again. I'm doing 1-2 feeds per day from it at the moment.

Thank you!

A friend of mine swore by fenugreek suppliments

The only thing that will really work is more feeding (or more expressing - hand/pump). If you aren't removing the milk nothing you take/do will make that breast do more than get engorged then settle back down.

Fenugreek may have it's place alongside far more frequent bfing/expressing but it does have it's drawbacks so research carefully before taking it or any other galactagogues.

Alternating as you would do if both breasts had a full supply can help too (unless you know at a particular time your baby won't want to work too hard for the milk) - so switching between which side is 1st - and also offering the less used side for comfort suckling may help bring back up the supply.

Good luck.

Same as TruthSweet - feed, feed and then feed some more.

I also fed exclusively on one side (right) for over two weeks, after a badly infected nipple meant that the other side (left) was just too painful. I did express a bit but my supply only started increasing when I started feeding again.

I basically just acted as if both sides had the same level of supply (i.e. alternated for each feed) but fed for less time on the left side if DD started getting frustrated. I also offered the left side for those feeds that were more about comfort than food (e.g. during the never-ending evening cluster feeds!)

It took a little while - and was hard work - but we'e going strong now with both sides having full supply. Plus, the attractive lopsided look I was starting to develop has also gone... :)

Good luck!
