How do I stop breastfeeding 8 month old

Hi my DS is ebf, took bottles occassionally until about 11weeks and then point blank refused. He is on 3 good meals a day and I am bf him about 4 times per day. He is also able to take water from a cup - but only a few sips (the rest seems to get spat out)

I'm going back to work in 8 weeks and really I would like to have stopped bf him by then. I know this sounds stupid but how do I do it?

Do I just change one feed at a time? Should I use a bottle or sippy cup? What if he just doesn't get taking milk from a sippycup (tried last week & he just spat it all out!). Is it just a case of perserverance?

I also feed to sleep for his nighttime feed - how do I change this feed?

Anyone with an advice/ experience greatly appreciated

Just wondering why you want to stop? Obviously totally your choice but am just checking it's not because you are worried about working and how carrying on may fit in with this. Having just returned to work, with a 9 month old still breastfeeding, after worrying myself to death about it, it's actually been really positive and haven't had to express even once!
Obviously I have no idea what hrs or job you are going back to, so my experience may be totally irrelevant, but In hindsight, it's been far far easier to carry on than to try and wean in a few short weeks. Going back to work is stressful enough, without giving yourself more to worry about!
Just for the record my ds feeds before I go at about 7, then is totally happy with juice and food until I return. He then has a feed at about half 5 and a couple in the night. If I am not there he really doesn't miss it. Have had no problems with the boobs either. They seem to have just adapted to this routine. On the days, I am home he feeds as usual.
Anyway, like I said, totally your choice so if it's not for the above reason, just ignore me lol and i Hope someone comes along soon who can be a bit more helpful. Grin

There are a number of reasons I want to stop breastfeeding

  1. I really find it a struggle feeding DS in public now - he is so distracted and wiggley. I now have to go somewhere private (toilets) to get him to concentrate - as a result I am finding that I not feeding him when I'm out or avoiding going out at feed times.
  2. My job means at least once a week I won't be able to do the bedtime feed so I really need to get that one cracked
  3. I just want to have a little bit of independence back so that the dad can do the bedtime feed and I can go out Smile

Anyone with any tips?

Sorry to resurrect a zombie thread but this situation is near identical to mine and just wondered if anyone had any advice please? Have tried giving formula in a sippy cup but am lucky if DD takes an ounce. She's eating well but am aware she still needs milk. Total bottle refuser as well!
