Keeping Medela swing to use in future?

I want to keep my Medela swing to use again if I have another baby, and I'd like your views on whether this would be safe. I know it's not a good idea to buy them second hand because they aren't a closed system so there's a risk of bacteria lurking, but I'm pretty sure that no milk ever got down the tube while I was pumping. Does this make it safe to use it again in future, or is it still a bit risky?

I'm interested in this too!

DS is 2 years old, DC2 due in the summer and I was hoping to be able to hoak it out of the attic to use again.

this makes interesting reading.

I didn't know there was any controversy about this. The blog is very interesting. I'm using my swing for my second baby at the moment and i will continue (though I think I better have a go at cleaning out the inside, didnt realise you were meant to). Anyway, if you do decide to reuse then pumps4mums.co.uk is a good site for spare/replacement bits and pieces.

Thanks Pascha, that blog is interesting.

Not sure what everyone else should do but I'm binning mine as milk did go down the tube. I replaced the tube but the bits inside got yucky which obviously put me off.... Am trying not to think about how much it cost....

I borrowed a Medela swing from a friend and completely took it apart to sterilise. I was glad I did because out of using 3 pumps, this one by faris hardest to clean. My friend was v fastidious about cleaning and sterilising, but the build up of deposits was yuck....
So yes you can take apart to sterilise - we got instructions off Internet.
