end up feeling really down? DD self weaned off the breast almost two weeks ago, have been lucky, suffered minimal discomfort but I feel so down all of a sudden. Have lots of stress at the moment, but it's been that way for a while and I was coping fine. The past week everything has become more upsetting. I wondered if it's hormones adjusting after being pregnant and then BFing for 12 months. Also did your appetite disappear as mine has, although I was ravenous when BFing!

I felt a bit sad, yes. but that went away quickly when I caught up on the missing sleep.

Hi didn't want to read and run, I've only been breast feeding ds1 for a couple of weeks, but today is a "down" day for me as I just can't fill him and need to start topping up with formula which i really didn't want to do Sad

I'm not sad to have stopped feeding as DD self weaned which was always my aim. Just more down in the dumps.

Babylon, how old is your DS? When my DD was just four weeks she had a huge growth spurt and wanted to feed non stop. I just sat on the sofa, fed her and ate biscuits! Have you been advised to top up with formula after each breast feed?

Yes, i felt quite sad that it was the end when we finished. I think it was a combination of altering hormones as well as just missing that time we had together. Def decreased appetite too, ate cake constantly whilst bf!

nickelbabe · 16/05/2012 16:27

if your DS is only a couple of weeks old Babylon i'm sure he's fine - it's almost constant growth-spurts at that stage.

If he's pooing and weeing and generally looking healthy, he does not need top-ups.

nickelbabe · 16/05/2012 16:27

dozens - i'm not looking forward to it either.
hope it's a long way off.

but the idea of sleeping through the night! that appeals Grin

I felt very sad when i stopped feeding dd at around 7 months. It was my decision to stop but I remember being low and weepy for a week or so. I think it was part hormones/ part worry that I wouldn't be able to comfort her as well any other way. Not an expert but think there are hormonal changes when you stop bf which would also explain why my hair moulted for a few weeks at that time. The sad feelings passed quickly though (and my fringe grew back eventually too Wink.

dozensofpichu · 16/05/2012 16:46

Smize-don't mention the hairloss! I look permanently like I've electrocuted myself due to mad standing on end sticking up bits where the new hair is coming through!

Babylon-I agree with nicklebabe re no need for top ups. The first few weeks the feeding is tiring and relentless. My DD had no routine, would feed and sleep as much or as little as she wanted. It is exhausting but all of a sudden you turn a corner and it becomes easier! Good luck with it.

Nicklebabe-I actually now have insomnia! So DD is sleeping through finally but I'm laying staring at the ceiling unable to sleep! It is beyond annoying!
