How long does it take for breastmilk to dry up..?

Hi all: I have not been breast feeding my 10 month old for about a month, now. She was a particularly hungry/large baby (well, still is!) and gradually we went from just topping up at evening time with formula to her just not being satisfied with breast at all. I tried to stick it out, tried using a breast pump to boost supply etc, but it just didn't work and we ended up moving onto formula for all feeds. I am quite disappointed to have had this happen: it makes me sad to see other people still managing to breast feed their much older babies, and I do feel a bit of a failure.

However, this morning in the shower, I tried giving one of my boobs an experimental squeeze, and a little bit of milk dribbled out..! I don't suppose I would be able to reverse the process and start breast feeding again (and anyway, I have now given away my breast pump and nursing tops etc), but I was kind of surprised to see there was still some milk there.

Would appreciate any comments on this! :)

Ha I've not fed for 8MO and 'experimental squeezing' always gives up a bit. IIRC it went on for over a year.
