Breast feeding and being sick

For the last few days it's almost guaranteed that my 9 week old if offered and takes the second breast he'll be quite sick. I don't see the point of offering if he is just going to bring it up. However in worried about not offering it in case it's a bad habit to get him into. He's on infacol to keep colic at baby, which is definitely helping with colic & winding.

Seems a waste of milk when they sick it all up!! I fed my daughter just one breasts worth each feed until she was weaned and she was fine!!

No such thing as a bad habit at this age, kilbride....he's still little, being sick won't distress him and if asks for the second breast he prob needs it :)

Not a waste of milk - any more than crying is a waste of tears, being hot is a waste of sweat, mouth-watering is a waste of saliva etc etc etc :)

I agree with tiktok - it won't distress him, and he won't be bringing it all up, so no harm in offering the second breast.

My twins used to by sick during/after every feed. It didn't upset them - I think try just really liked suckling, so they over filled. Meant a lot of washing though! They stopped being sick at about 7 months, though it decreased a lot when they started on solids at 7 months. They're still breastfed now (18 months), and are very rarely sick :)

You'd be surprised how little milk looks like a flood. Next time you're cleaning anyway (ha ha! Sorry, you have a 9 week old, so I hope you're not ever cleaning), try spilling just an ounce or two of milk (cow's milk, don't waste the good stuff) on a worktop. It looks like a flood for such a small amount.

Well done for feeding despite the sick - remember that this too shall pass ...
