One feed a day?

My baby (14 weeks) now has formula all through the day and last feed at night but her 3-4am feed is still a breastfeed. Is it possible to continue this or will my milk dry up as I'm not feeding in the day?

I don't imagine you would be able to continue with this indefinately (and you probably don't want her up at that time of the morning indefinately either ) but as long as she wants it I would still offer. I did something similar with my DS1 although his last feed was the early morning one, we kept it going until 16 weeks when I had had enough and he wasn't bothered either way.

I've kept giving my daughter her bed time feed only for months now and although there's clearly not as much milk as there used to be she still gets a good old chug.

You can continue as long as you are both happy. If your milk dries up she will reject the breast. Out of intereset, are you wanting to continue feeding? If so, you can reintroduce breastfeeds during the day to increase your supply if you want to. If not, carry on as you are.

Mears, I tried that - to reintroduce breast during the day after she had been used to having a bottle of formula during the day, but she refused it, which left me with only a morning and night time feed, and then eventually just a morning feed. She sort of naturally weaned herself at 9 months, although I would have liked to have gone longer. It seems a hard sell for some. . .

Thanks for the replies - it's good to know we should be ok to continue for the foreseeable future. I would have loved to continue feeding her full time but it was not really a practical option with my work and her starting with a childminder. I do occasionally breastfeed in the evening or if she's fretful after her bottle but that's more of a comfort top-up rather than a feed.

You could breastfeed at the weekend and last thing at night if you really want to continue. I did that when I went back to work and ds went to a childminder three days a week.

Hi Missp. I did this with my youngest DD3 and must admit that in the end I had to stop as my milk did dry up. On the plus side I didnt have painful breasts as I did it so gradually. The only thing I can suggest is to express a little during the day to keep the milk supply there.
