How much milk for a one year old?

Ds will be a year old next week. Other than breastfeeding he's never been that keen on milk. He feeds in the evening and several times during the night (co-sleeping), but other than that it's a bit hit and miss, and now I'm starting to worry that he's not getting enough iron/calcium etc. He goes to a childminder three times a week who tries to give him a bottle of formula in the afternoon but apparently he doesn't often drink that much of it.

How important is it? And is formula still better than cow's milk at this stage? I think he must be getting quite a lot of breastmilk in the night as my periods still haven't come back, but I don't often breastfeed him during the day. He eats pretty well.

from 1 year around 300/350mls is recommended but it doesnt all have to be in drink form as milk in cereal, yoghurts, cheese, etc all count too. 3 dairy portions are recommended each day so that could be a drink of milk, some cheese and a yoghurt. Full fat cows milk is fine from 1 year but if you are worried about vitamins then you can give a supplement.

From 1 cows milk is fine for any baby no need to line the formula companies pockets if you don't have to. I wouldn't worry about the bottle in the afternoon either. From 12 months they should have 300 mls of cows milk per day but that's for babies not having bm. If he's bf he's getting everything he needs from you Smile.

If he's being bf I seriously wouldn't worry about iron and calcium or getting him to drink cow's milk. The iron available in bm is far more digestible than most other forms of iron. If you are really worried just keep bfing and make sure he has a bit of custard or yoghurt or milk each day and some fish once or twice a week and some red meat and green vegetables too.

You might find this information helpful but to be honest, you sound like you are dong everything right.
