Hungry baby, need advice

My 2 month old baby seems really hungry all the time. I am breastfeeding but i dont seem to have enough for her. She won't take to the bottle either. On one occasion, i had to be away from her for 6 hours and she refused to take the bottle even though she was really hungry. My partner actually force fed her 30ml of formula milk which i was fuming about when i got back!! Does anyone have any advice on what to do? My partner thinks there's no harm in slowly dripping milk into her mouth and she has no choice but to drink it but i think it's wrong.

What makes you think you don't have enough breastmilk for her?

Rachelbow · 02/05/2012 08:54

babies go through many growth spurts in the 1st few months, there is one at 8 weeks, look up 8 week growth spurt. She will feed like crazy during these times, with regards to feeding from a bottle if she is starving hungry she will take it, you could ask your partner to try giving it to her on a sterilized spoon or from a syringe or dream feeding her when you are away.
You will have enough milk for her it works on a supply and demand basis so as long as shes suckling you will be releasing milk producing hormones, its near impossible for a woman to run out of milk if the baby is feeding well.
Keep at it the longer you bf the easier it is.

She feeds and sleeps during the day but come evening time, she wakes up and wants to feed non stop. When I say non stop, she would feed on both breasts then 5 minutes later, want feed again! Therefore theres not enough milk right away.

This is sometimes known as the witching hour most babies have an hour or so of cluster feeding and generally being grumpy most evenings like everything else this will pass :)

When baby drinks milk from your breasts it is not like drinking from a pond, it is like drinking from a river.

Your milk is enough for her, and it will never run out.

What everyone else says. As long as she is gaining weight well and having enough wet and dirty nappies, then she is getting enough milk, no matter how much she feeds.

If she wants to feed again soon after her last feed in the evenings, then just keep swapping her to the other breast when she has had enough of the side she is on. You can do this as many times as you need to and keep switching sides, back and forth. Nursing like this is also good for your milk supply.

Your breasts never run out of milk, even if the flow has slowed down, they are constantly being filled from higher up in the breast. Even when you can't squeeze a drop out yourself, your baby, who is the most efficient person at removing your milk, can get some. It's a bit like imagning a bath full of water, with the tap running very slowly. If you take out the plug (eg latch the baby on) then the water will quickly run out. However, after that, even though the bath is empty, water will still keep running down the plug hole from the tap which is turned on.

Sounds like you are bf perfectly normally and have a normal baby who is feeding normally and behaving normally.
