Concerned about too much gain

Dd is nearly 7mths (29 weeks). I got her weighed yesterday 8.4kg - so she has jumped from dead on 75th percentile. She is blw and I may be underestimating her intake but I thought it was minimal. She hasn't cut down on her breast feeds at all. A few weeks ago she started having both sides per session. She has 4/5 day time feeds and 2 night feeds (one side each time). I am a bit worried about her jump as she hasn't had a huge amount of solids. I am trying to night wean which hv suggested but I feel like I am going so wrong. This is dc 3 but 1 and 2 were on 3/4 bottles of formula and none at night at 7 months. How many bf does a blw ebf baby need. I feel tense that she is going to get really overweight. DH's mum and maternal gm are obese and have always struggled. DH and Dfil are 6ft 4 and stocky. My family are average size and ds1 is 91st centile for height and weight. An I get my knickers in a twist unnecessarily and let her be?!??

No expert but I would say you shouldn't have to cut down bf at all. As long as the solids are fairly balanced I wouldn't worry. Did the hv measure height as well? Could be she's had a growth spurt. Sounds like you're doing really well!

I don't think you should be worrying about your baby's weight at 7 months. As long as she is content then it really doesn't matter this early.
DS1 was a right fatty as a baby but soon lost it all as soon as he started running around. DS2 wasn't very chunky but my DD is 8 months and is huge!!! She is 19 lbs 8.

What centile is she for weight now? Don't think it says in your op.

Babies don't get obese through bf :)

You can't over feed a bfed baby. You're doing all the right things. She's still so young. Chances are her rate of growth will slow once she's more mobile. Her height matches her weight centile wise anyway so she's obviously just made that waySmile

If she's EBF and BLW then she'll be regulating her own intake so it's highly unlikely she's "too" big/heavy. If her height and weight centiles are roughly the same then she's just a big girl, and well done you for getting her there. As you say, tall and stocky is somewhere in her DNA!

How come your HV suggested night weaning? Is that something you want/need to do? I only ask because I've experienced a lot of misinformed HV's that have a bee in their bonnets about babies feeding at night (which is very natural in a BF baby, and not just about nutrition). Personally I have reduced the amount of night feeds I give DS (also 7 months, and 91st centile, so I know where you're coming from) from 5 or so to 1 or 2, which has made a massive difference to my health and sanity, but that was right for me and my family, doesn't apply to anyone else necessarily.

I want to cut down night feeds as so tired and will return to work in June so also want more structure to day feeds. Yes hv was very for night weaning when I mentioned I was rationing it - saying she def doesn't need night feeding. Dd has other ideas and settles after a lot of rocking and dummy replacement. Last night I only feed at 1am.
