I have been looking at breast pumps. I am only planning on expressing the odd feed now and then, maybe also some for weaning providing BF gets going.

I was planning on getting the tommee tippee one as it looks quite good and isn't too expensive. I had an avent one with DS2 and really didn't like it at all.

I did want an electric one as I thought it would be easier, but as its only going to be for now and then feeds I thought it was a bit much to spend.

Which do you suggest and any I should maybe stay away from?

Thanks.

I had an avent one that I really didn't like either... Until it broke, and I tried it on the manual setting during an, erm, engorgement emergency! Weirdly, I discovered I found the manual setting faster and more comfortable. And I could still hear the telly!

I have a tommy tippee because I cant afford an electric pump and its ok but not brilliant - takes a while to get suction but once it does I have no problem. my biggest problem is that my hands hurt lol, Im hopeful for working off the bingo wings!

I have the Avent Via manual pump and I'm not having any problems with it at all. Can get at least an ounce out in less than ten minutes and baby is less than two weeks old. It's really handy as it attaches to the Avent bottles, and very handily, the Avent storage cups. I got it half price in a Mothercare sale, it was less than 20 quid.

I managed with a manual Avent one, I heard the Tommee Tippee one wasn't very good.

I might go have a look in mothercare. I definitely don't want another avent one as really hated it with DS2.

It's funny how breast pumps seem a very personal decision. I'm getting on well with my Avent one but hated my medela one. Such a PITA to not be able to try before you buy...

That would make life much easier!!

I use an avent manual one as well. For me, its very efficient and its easy to take apart / clean too.

I used the Avent manual pump with DC1 and 2 but as I'm using Tommee Tippee bottles for occasional feeds I bought a Tommee Tippee manual pump this time. I really didn't like it. The part you pup on the breast is white so you can't see if the nipple is in the right place and it isn't as soft/cushioned like the Avent. It also doesn't come apart as much for cleaning and when I took it off, some milk always dripped out. I only used it 3 times before buying an Avent pump again, which I love. The Tippee one is going on ebay and Mothercare are currently selling the Avent at £18.

I have the Tommee Tippee one and have been using it most mornings for the last 15/16 weeks, feeding from one side and expressing the other. I haven't had any problems, the only thing is if you are pouring the milk into a storage bag for the freezer, the shape of the tommee tippee bottles means that there seems to be a little bit always left in the bottom which seems to be a waste Hmm.

I also found having a manual one really helpful in the early weeks when i was really sore and expressed when i couldn't necessarily feed off one side or the other, couldn't have imagined using an electric one then!

I have both the manual & electric Tommee Tippee pumps & love them. Have never had a problem getting suction with the manual & find it so quick to express with-just makes my hand ache :( but that will happen with any manual pump.

Have a look at Asda as I think they have a baby event on at the moment & they usually have good bargains on pumps.
