Feeding and sleep combinations

I have a nearly 5 mo ds who is exclusively bf.
On a good night he wakes up once for food
between 2-3am. On a bad night he's awake, a
lot. He has also started waking up earlier and
earlier (0450 this morning). At the moment he
feeds every 3-4 hours during the day.
I'm just wondering if I feed him more during
the day (say every 2 hours) will he sleep for
longer at night? or will he grow accustomed to
getting fed that often and expect it during the
night too? I'm thinking anything is worth a go at
the moment but I don't want to send my milk
production into overdrive if its not going to
work!

It's worth a go!

TBH I don't have much faith in our ability to change babies sleep patterns, I think they just do what they do. I have noticed that my two feed more in the night after a busy day, but I think that's for reassurance rather than because of any change on feeding pattern.

They do eventually start sleeping more, I promise! My DS slept through again last night (7.30pm - 6.30am) - he's done it a handful of times to date, but it is getting a little bit more frequent Grin

My DD is waking a lot at the moment. She feeds 2-3hrs in the day! On average she fits in 10-12 feeds in 24hrs! She woke up a lot last night but the night before only once! So I know she's capiable of it!! I think shed teething but who knows!! They like to keep us on our toes!! Will keep an eye on this thread as I would appreciate some advice too.

Well, I've tried feeding him more but it hasn't affected his sleep at all. I even tried him on some baby rice yesterday which he absolutely loved but had an awful night last night. I think you're right and nothing we do really effects their sleep patterns. I think his gums are sore which may explain why last night was so horrendous. I think I'm just going to have to stick it out and he'll start sleeping better when he's ready (easier said than done though!).
