Night sweats - milk came in 3 days ago

Hi all, I wonder if anyone has experienced the same and has any ideas for making things better!

My milk came in 3 days ago overnight with a searing sunburn tingly pain - big hard hot boobs! The night this happened I woke and was sweating profusely and also very shivery, like a severe sunburn type feeling.

In the morning, boobs were huge and hard but got the feeding going no problems and felt fine. Have continued to feel very well but each night have the same severe sweating & shivering. I wondered if I had an infection with my CS scar but the GP said it's all good.

The feeling is really unpleasant and makes getting up for the feed & nappy changes very very uncomfortable. Not sure what I can do to ease this - is it all the hormones / milk - will it ease with time or do I have to deal with this forever more?!

Thanks ladies

I had this with DS1, also by CS. The sheets were soaking. It passed. About a week later I was diagnosed with a uterine infection but I don't think the two were realted.

If it's just at night it's prbably not an infection triggered fever. Is your temperature raised durign the day?

Hi, I also had this with both DC.

I read somewhere-maybe on here Grin that it's your body's way of getting rid of lots of water retained during pregnancy.

I had 2 sections, my DF had 2 naturally - we both had night sweats.

Just another wonderful side effect of childbearing that no ones tells you about!

I had this for about 6 weeks post partum. I think its to do with prolactin levels. Its horrible isn't it? Hope it passes soon.

Ah, the night sweats! Am sure havinganoffday is right, it is the body's way of getting rid of fluids - I was peeing like a racehorse for days too (TMI?!) It does pass quite quickly, just unpleasant!

BulletProofMum · 23/04/2012 13:10

I agree witht he excess fluids - I was really puffy and lost a stone in a few days

BulletProofMum · 23/04/2012 13:11

I had gained weight i hospital despite having offloaded DS 1.

I had this too - lasted for about two months I think. It was winter time & I was going to bed wearing nothing but a bra in my desperation to keep cool - normally at that time of year I dress like a polar explorer to go to bed, and like to have an electric blanket on.

Good luck - hope it passes soon.

Ooh yes, the night sweats! I was told it was the body getting rid of extra fluid too.

shame it forgot about the last half stone

Yes I had this with DS during the first week he was born- waking up twice a night just dripping in sweat. It was December so I used to go to bed with a hot water bottle and then wake up in a warm swimming pool :-) I was also leaking milk so it was all rather unpleasant. I also had lots of weird dreams about DS being "lost" in the bed (he was in a moses basket) only to wake up clutching a pillow / hot water bottle. Sleep deprivation does strange things to the brain. My HV told me that the night sweats were affected by your hormones.

katiegolightly · 24/04/2012 13:16

Thanks everyone, good to know this is quite normal... and that it won't go on forever! Sing I've been doing the same! It's very disconcerting and I keep thinking I've fallen asleep clutching her and then searching in the pillows and duvet that I have hugged to me for where she is!

I think the shivering wasn't anything more than the sweat being cold and clinging to the wet pajamas... delightful. Naked sleeping now and a towel on the bed that I can whip out and swap every time I get up. Lovely!

Just to add that I had the sweats too, and a few nights when I got up started shivering so hard my teeth rattled and I thought I'd drop the baby. Our house is not cold so it really freaked me out, and I also started worrying about my CS scar. I am on day 15 after the CS and this hasn't happened for a week, so attributing it to my body coping with sleep deprivation

Pastabee · 25/04/2012 17:34

Wish they'd just warn you about this.... I was exactly the same and thought I must be ill as my sheets were soaked and I kept having to change my nightie.

It's horrid but will pass soon enough.

tentative123 · 25/04/2012 17:37

Yep me too and the horrid baby in the bed dreams too! What joy...
