Everything's stained yellow!

Bf-ing is going brilliantly with DD, but she's quite a squitty baby and lots of her lovely little outfits now have whopping yellow stains on them, although I wash them all at 90 degrees as immediately as I can. Do j need some special stain soak stuff or new detergent? What works please?!

Hang them outside in the sun and rain. Natural daylight is great at removing poo stains.

MigGril · 22/04/2012 08:47

Sunlight will remove all the yellow stains it works wonders on my nappies. No need to wash at 90C either just a normal 60C wash will get rid of bugs as that is the temp they use for hospital beding.

GlaikitFizzog · 22/04/2012 08:50

Ds was a nightmare for squitting out his nappy. I tried a few brands and sizes and found pampers the best for him. They are also the most expensive but hey ho!! Worth giving it a go.

KatyJ26 · 22/04/2012 08:51

Get a vanish stick- wet where the mark is, rub the vanish on, wash normally and hang in sun- good as new Smile

Indith · 22/04/2012 08:53

Yup the sun is great.

My nappies are currently all stained because it keeps raining and I can't put them out :( I need a sunny day!

JollySergeantJackrum · 22/04/2012 08:54

I had to take 3 spare outfits in the change bag when we went anywhere until ds was 9 months old!

Hanging things outside definitely works though.

GlaikitFizzog · 22/04/2012 08:56

Hey jolly! Happy birthday to your ds!

LaTristesse · 22/04/2012 09:03

Goodness, that's a brilliant and cheap solution, thank you! Will get a Vanish stick too, for big issues!

And yes we use Pampers already but, particularly when she's in her car seat, she manages to get it half way up her back. (She also at one nappy change managed to get it 4ft up the wall, so i think she's just got a powerful evacuation!)

I always found cloth nappies much better at containg poo. But if you don't want to go down that route you could try a cloth nappy cover over the disposable (I always did this when we need to use disposables for any reasion) Stops most of the exploding poo's.

Pastabee · 22/04/2012 09:18

I always soak the clothes in a bowl of hot water with some fairy non bio powder for at least a few hours before putting them in machine. Works for me.

notjustamummythankyou · 22/04/2012 09:36

Ooh the stains! Ditto for vanish - we use the spray.

lagoonhaze · 22/04/2012 09:36

Napisan in machine and sunlight!

Never failed to shift a stain in either cloth nappies or clothes. Even on a dull day it's pretty good but sometimes just leave it out for a day or two and rewash.

Works for baby food too- esp jars.

Wrigglebum · 22/04/2012 17:02

I thought I'd have to throw out DS's old clothes due to yellow poo and puke stains but a quick soak in Oxy and time in the sun and good as new Smile.

notjustamummythankyou · 23/04/2012 10:12

I spy a problem - we haven't had any sun for weeks!

lagoonhaze · 23/04/2012 11:35

We have but even on a dull rainy day it works just may take a few days. Just dont set it by tumble drying it!

notjustamummythankyou · 23/04/2012 13:08

Ah. And there be my second problem: I may indeed have made the stains permanent by tumble drying.

Oh.

:(

LaTristesse · 23/04/2012 13:56

Mm, I have definitely tumbled my stained clothes. Is there no way back now, not even with Vanish?!

fhdl34 · 23/04/2012 14:20

Put the clothes in cold water soak ASAP and I wouldn't wash the clothes at 90 as hot water sets the stain.

Wrigglebum · 23/04/2012 15:42

I probably tumbled my stained clothes and the stains have come out. It's worth trying to get them out.

I've decided to give up using non-bio for this baby, it just doesn't get the poo or puke out. Instead I'll just make sure I don't use too much powder and run an extra rinse cycle to get any powder residue out. DH and DS have sensitive skin but switching to bio hasn't caused either of then any problems. Other countries seem to cope without non-bio so I'm a bit sceptical about it!

lagoonhaze · 23/04/2012 17:30

There may be a way back if you persist with the sunlight.

I also use bio on this baby. Cloth nappies too

ceeveebee · 23/04/2012 17:46

I soak all poo stained clothes in napisan for a couple of hours (or overnight) then wash on 40, never had a stain that hasn't come out yet (and my DTs have regular poo explosions, at least one a day between them!).

I also use pampers, and go for the bigger size (ie my DTD is in size 3 but should be in size 2 per the weight limits), I find it contains the poo a bit better
