My ds is 15 mo and still bf to sleep on a bedtime. I have thought about going until he was about 18 no or even 2 but I am so frustrated with his feeding at the minute that I just want to throw in the towel. He nips and scratches so badly at the start of a feed that I have bruises and scratces all over my chest. I really don't know how to stop him. But I am worried about how on eart I will get him to sleep without feeding! Anyone got any tips?

Would you carry on breastfeeding if the pinching and biting were to stop? Pinchers and biters are such hard work, it's usually just a phase though. Have you tried using a nursing necklace or other distraction?

If you want to carry on but stop the pincing scratching then maybe this would be helpfull kellymom.com/ages/older-infant/nursing-manners-2/

It is just a phase and you can train them to stop, you wouldn't put up with it anyother time I don't think it's to much to expect a nursling to learn nursing manners at this age.

Have a read of MigGril's link and see if that helps. If you do decide to stop though you could replace the bf with some warmed cow's milk in a cup and a cuddle and lullabye.

Ok thanks, the link made interesting reading. I know I shouldn't put up with the nipping but as he is drowsy when I feed him I worry that constantly pulling him off and telling him no will make bedtime very unsettling. I don't really want to stop yet.
