breast milk storage bags

Does anyone know if boots still sell their own brand of freezer friendly bags?

Used to use them with dc1. Now on dc2, had a look in store and online, but can't see them.

Lansinoh ones are good, but boots are / were cheaper!

Yes, they have them in the stores but they are still over £7 for not very many.

Do you have a Home Bargain nearby? They sell packs of 20 for £2. Sterilised, BPA free etc. Bargain!

notjustamummy - I have a packet of boots breast milk storage bags - maybe one removed? - I will happily post to you if you want to PM me an address.

tickleme63 · 18/04/2012 16:05

Not that anyone has mentioned them, but I'd steer clear of Mothercare ones. Every bag of milk that I froze in them began leaking during the thawing process, bloody crap things they are.

Tescos ones I have found really good, and the Medela ones that you pump directly into (but are hideously pricey in my humble opinion...).

HappyJoyful · 18/04/2012 16:15

I tried to find these sometimes last year and discovered it was only the much bigger brands of Boots that had them (after about blinking 3 trips to small local ones)

Sorry for late response for your helpful replies everyone! Really useful.

littone - yes please! That's very kind of you. Am on android phone right now and can't see hoe to pm you. Will get onto pc and will send contact details.

Hoe? This is nothing to do with gardening tools. I meant 'how'.

In fact, first sentence doesn't make sense at all.

You get the gist!

The boots ones are no longer sold as freezer friendly.

No home bargains near us. Any other alternative suggestions that aren't too expensive appreciated.

notjustamummythankyou · 22/04/2012 15:59

lagoon - you can't put the boots ones in the freezer now? How pointless is that?! The box I have now says you can, but they are 2 years old.

Buggeration. Back to the drawing board. Will look on Amazon for lansinoh ones.

There is a home & bargain 10 minutes' walk from me - happy to post a truckload of bags to anyone who is in need (think they are about £2 a box of 30). Smile

notjustamummythankyou · 22/04/2012 17:24

That's kind of you, emsyj!

Just looked on boots website and they're back in stock, and it does say that they're not freezer friendly. However, I wonder if boots are simply covering themselves? There are reviews online going back to early 2010 saying that the bags split easily, but that is when I used them last and I had no problems.

Not sure if I want to chance £7+ though. Have seen lansinoh ones on Amazon now for about the same price, and with fifty in a box, not 40 as in boots.

I should stop agonizing, and just buy! :)

The Home Bargain ones are freezer safe - I used them with DD (not much tho as she was a bottle refuser Sad).

Happy to post you a box, just PM me with your address.

lagoonhaze · 22/04/2012 20:14

I'm also using some old packaging boots bags that say yes to freezer but online say no in new packaging.

Emsyj- how much do you think p&p would be? May have a box when these run out If expressing goes ok.

slavetothewage · 22/04/2012 20:42

emsyj Do you mind picking me up a couple of boxes and posting?

Happy to send you cheque, postal order, Paypal etc. for the costs.

My local home and bargains don't have them any more :(

emsyj · 22/04/2012 20:48

Yes of course, anyone who wants some just drop me a PM with your address and how many boxes you want and I'll send on - I'll let you know what the postage is, I can't imagine it would be very much. They are only light.

RillaBlythe · 22/04/2012 20:54

God, how annoying - hadn't realised until I read this thread that my Boots freezer bags (7 bloody quid!) weren't freezer friendly. Why would I be buying them if not to put in the freezer? Grr. I've got about 15 in the freezer at the moment, I suppose we will see if they split when they come out...

lagoonhaze · 22/04/2012 21:15

Thanks emsyj

lagoonhaze · 22/04/2012 21:17

Exactly rillablythe what a waste of time!

littone · 22/04/2012 21:21

notjustamummy - just checked my box and they say they are ok for fridge and freezer - will try to message you too!

littone · 22/04/2012 21:23

Hiya

You are very welcome to the storage bags! Sadly I was not able to express (wouldn't have made a good diary cow me!) so didn't get used - and have yet to meet anyone to pass them too.

Just let me have your address and I will post them to you.

Regards

Sarah

Thank you so much, have PM'd you emsyj

elliebug · 23/04/2012 14:35

Ooh am glad I stumbled across this, just wondering, slightly off topic but how do you guys express? Am currently in hosp so using their pump but am hoping to escape soon so will need my own.

elliebug · 23/04/2012 14:36

Actually should prob start my own thread rather than hijack!!Blush

notjustamummythankyou · 23/04/2012 15:02

elliebug no problem - ask away!

I use an avent manual pump. I know some find the manual ones a faff, but it works very well for me. It's also easy to take apart and clean, which is good.

OP posts:
emsyj · 23/04/2012 15:21

I used a Tommee Tippee manual pump at first, then bought a Medela Swing (which is all beautifully packed up in its box, waiting for the hoped-for DC2 to present the opportunity to use it again!)

The hospital grade pumps are great though - soooo quick & easy.
