12 week old falling through the percentiles

Hi, I'm new to this forum and after some advice!
DS is 12 weeks old and is ebf.
He was 9 lb exactly at birth, so between 75th and 90th percentiles. His head circumference and length at birth were not taken.
At 4 weeks, our discharge appointment, the MW weighed him at 11lb 12 oz -again between 75th and 90th percentiles. (Weighed naked on digital scales)
At 8 weeks + 2, immunisations appointment, he weighed only 12 lb 14 oz so between 50th and 75th percentiles.
At 12 weeks +3, he weighs 13lb 15oz, so between 25th and 50th percentiles.
I don't get it! BF has been going really well. He's a very healthy and happy baby. He feeds for about 10 minutes every 3 hours during the day and 4 hours at night. If I try to put him on the breast more often, or to offer him the other breast, he either refuses it or throws up the extra milk (otherwise he doesn't throw up a drop!). He has plenty of wet nappies but poos only once every 4 to 5 days although this does not seem to bother him.
In the early days we sought advice from a midwife who checked our latch and said it was fine. I hav oversupply and a fast letdown but h has gradually learnt to deal with it.
I'm not sure if I should worry or not! Im reluctant to offer more feeds or ebm top ups because he seems vry content with whatever he gets in the brief time he's on the boob and whenever I'v tried to feed him more he's brought it up after a few minutes.
Any advice greatly appreciated!

How would you feel about him if you hadn't had him weighed?

He's drop down the centiles but these are averiage charst it can be totaly normal for a baby to change centiels. And as long as he's happy healthy and meeting all of his developmental mile stones then there is probably nothing to worry about.

I take it your HV was happy with his weight?

I wouldn't worry about the centile reading. My boy was 8.12 at birth on 50th and was EBF too. He stayed on or just below 50th until 22 wk and dropped down to 25th and waived on and under it ever since. As long as you know he is feeding well then you are doing well. The wet nappies are evidence of good feeding. You can not force feed them as they know when tum is full and as you have found will reject and bring back feed.

at 12 wk mine was 13lb 4oz. He had a ferocious quick feed. He is now a healthy 2yr 9month old and still eats like a horse and weight all in proportion to height and build.

Sounds like you are doing a grand job

my lo was born on 75th centile and at 20weeks has found her actual centile is actually the 2nd! very happy healthy obvious genius LITTLE girl. My hv has supported me throughout the freefall.(She's never lost weight after initial birth wt to milk coming in bit) I think that fluttering between a couple of centiles is normal in first yr but don't quote me as my dcs don't DO normal Wink As long as your lo is well and there is no obvious other reasons for concern, i'd keep a eye but not worry.

If I hadn't had him weighed I wouldn't have worried although he does look a bit thin when compared with DS1 and DS2 who were ff.
He's very alert and smiley and meeting all the developmental milestones ahead of time.
I'm Blush to say that HV is not aware of this....i've only met her once when he was 2 weeks old and she did not impress me much so have avoided meeting her again. He was weighed at GP's surgery at 8
weeks and again yesterday at my request. The nurse who weighed him yesterday said that she was not worried but she's not a specialist so I'm wondering what to do.

my DD was born (in September) on nearly the 75th centile

she didnt regain her birth weight until 3 weeks, by which time she was just above 25th

at every weigh in until december she dropped slightly until she was nearly at the 9th (but not quite)

I was NOT worried.... i knew she was fine... she has always fed well, and fed lots and lots (day and night)

since December she has slowly crept up again.... i had her weighed on Friday (aged 7m) and she is now back on the 75th Shock

I trusted my mummy instinct, i knew she was fine, and told them that i would not be considering formula so i wasnt hassled after that.

(just to add if the has been clearly ill etc or i thought she wasnt getting enough i would have given her formula, but that was not the case and as well as feeding her, i was DRIPPING 5 - 10oz of milk a day so i knew i had plenty of milk!)

Really sounds like you've nothing to worry about. They woun't even think about reffuring you unless he's droped more then 2 full centiles and even then maybe not if a baby look's heatly.

Just don't start weighing more often a healthy baby should only be weighed every 4 week's at most.

If you where happy before you had him weight then that probably says it all really. FF baby's gain weight differently to BF baby's so don't compare to your older DS as they where FF and different baby's.
