wanting to stop breastfeeding 2.5 year old during day

I have been recently thinking of trying to stop my 2.5 year old breastfeeding in the day- I know it's way overdue, but thought she would just reduce on her own but it hasn't happened. I don't mind the night and morning ones but the daytime is a pain and I know its just a comfort thing. Problem is at this age how do I do it and should I do it or do I hope once she starts pre school she will naturally start reducing. Any advice would be gratefully received.

What makes you say it's overdue? If you want to cut down then distraction might help. Try taking her out somewhere, offering a snack or drink or a cuddle instead and don't sit on the sofa or wherever it is you normally BF. Frequent feeding is normal even at 2.5, especially if you're together a lot.

Thanks for that. I suppose it isn't unusual and she copes on days I am at work, but her dad who looks after her when I am at work sometimes gets frustrated and thinks I am doing it for a quiet life on my days. I think I am doing it for her as she is still so interested but I guess I fear sometimes he is right. However the truth is sometimes its a pain and so can't believe it is all for me.

Hi manic mama, I'm in the same situation. My 2.5 yr old ds2 still feeds frequently (daytime AND night Hmm) and to be honest even though I enjoy it, I do find it a bit wearing at times. Especially the frequent night feeds! My problem is I have no milk replacement as he's dairy allergic :( will your lo take an alternative milk? I've just started my ds 1 day per week at nursery and planning to get out to distract him more (although to be fair that doesn't really work, he just demands - he screamed at parents eve tonight until he got his milkey Hmm)

Subbing for more suggestions :)
