Can I ask a stoopid question about cows' milk for BF toddler?

My DS is 21 months and still has 2-3 BFs a day. For a while I used to buy a pint of full fat milk to use on his cereal/give him to drink etc, but he didn't usually have very much and I kept having to throw it away, so took to using semi-skimmed on his cereal (as we buy SS milk for us anyway). He then got into the habit of drinking the leftover milk from his cereal and asking for more, so he generally has a cup of milk at breakfast. He also drinks quite a lot of cows' milk at bedtime if I'm not there for whatever reason, and I'm thinking of replacing that BF with cows' milk anyway since he's quite happy with it. I think he actually likes the semi-skimmed better as he drinks it much more happily than he did the full fat.

I know you're meant to give under 2s full fat milk rather than semi-skimmed. SO my question is, does this really matter? I kind of reckon he's closer to 2 than 1 now so it should be fine, plus I am still his main source of milk anyway. But am just being paranoid...

It should be fine. As long as he is getting an overall balanced diet and is fit and well.

Probably fine while your still BF and it's not his main source of milk.

We're all on full fat in our house but only because we hardly use anymilk at all. We're luckly if we get through 4pints a week, DS still BF's quit a bit and DD(who's 4) just doen't drink it as was BF till 3. We also don't drink tea or coffes so it's only used for cerial and the odd cooking source.

Thanks! Yes, he eats a (relatively) balanced diet and plenty of full-fat yoghurt and cheese too.

It's funny how we think of (cows') milk as such an essential part of a child's diet - I have come to realise that if they breastfeed till the age of 2 or so it's really not.
