Breastfed baby vomited

For the first time today. She is nearly 17 weeks and although sometimes brings up a little after feeding she as never actually been sick before.

I am feeling a littled panicked as there was A LOT of it and she has had problems putting on weight in the past.

Also there has been gastroenteritis going around but I don't think we have knowingly been in contact with anyone known to have had it.

She seems well enough....

Please tell me I am coming over all Pfb

Is it normal for breastfed babies to randomly vomit everywhere?

Could be a bug. They don't normaly randomly vomit anymore then any other baby.

But just keep feeding her and seek medical help if she seems unwell at all.

She seems well, if I am calm, but I keep convincing myself she has turned green!

My mum was hiding her when it happened (she got drenched!) and she didn't even cry or reach out for me.

She is feeding again now.

She can't really afford to loose weight. I think that's why I am over stressing really.

Hi, I'm no expert but wanted to reassure you that what you describe has happened a couple of times to my ebf 2 months old and it has scared the hell our of me too but it turned out to be nothing - and not a stomach bug. A couple of times I kept him at the breast much longer than usual and he just drenched me with his vomit. It kept coming, it was scary!
In hindsight it's good that they self regulate like that. Smile

What vanilla and creme said - both my dds did this . It is scary as it is so much and do violent . However it is usually a growth spurt thing as they were fine after even If my carpets arent..

Chubfuddler · 12/04/2012 19:56

Dd did this a few times at about that age, usually when starting with a cold. Keep feeding and take temperature if she feels warm. It's almost certainly nothing.

Just keep a close eye on her. When you next change her, double check she is wet and then you know that she must have had enough for liquid to have gone through her and she will not be dehydrated. Other than that, trust your instinct. If she seems unwell or poorly in herself, then phone NHS direct and ask their advice.

Good luck

Thank you all for reassuring me.

She is sleeping next to me now. No more vomiting yet so will keep my fingers crossed.
