Toddler growth, WWYD?

My DD is just over 17mo and weighs 19lb 12oz. Which is a little over the 9th centile line.

Her length and HC are also fairly small.

She was tracking just under 50th centile for most of her first year, but has now dropped nearly 2 centiles since she started toddling.

She's not actually losing any weight.

She's an active child and a good eater. I just can't understand where she puts it all.

WWYD, would you be worried if you were me?

Were you worried before you knew her weight? If not then I wouldn't be worried myself.

If there are other things about her development you are concerned about then I would maybe speak to my GP/ HV (whoever you most trust to give sensible evidence based information).

She sounds pretty much in proportion and isn't loosing weight. Agree with hazchem have a think about whether you were bothered before knowing her weight and if so, speak to your GP.

Is she getting the recommended amount of milk per day and does she eat plenty of things like protein?

I had no concerns about her development before I knew her weight.

She is a reasonable eater. Not great with meat, but will eat eggs etc. She doesn't drink much milk, but does have cows milk on her cereal, eat cheese and yoghurt and has BM at least once a day.

But I was aware, and many people are always mentioning to me (including nursery), how tiny she is. Which, whether you like it or not does tend to stick in your mind.

She will be seeing the GP soon, so I will mention it to him. But in the meantime, I won't worry too much.

How would you feel about offering bm more, say 2 or 3 times a day after meals? There is very little that you can give her that will be as calorific Smile

Of course you're right and I would be open minded to BF more.

I'm not sure she feels the same though. She has self weaned to the point we're at now. If I try to initiate feeds at other times, she refuses pretty determinedly e.g. shakes her head and tries to wriggle away. However, first thing in the morning it's the ONLY thing that will do and she goes crazy without it :) She's certainly knows her own mind when it comes to BF and everything else

Sometimes I can get away with an extra feed just before bed. Maybe I'll try to do this more often and see where we go from there.
