I thought I had a blocked duct ... seems as though it is mastitis... I have high temperature and severe pain in right breast..... I don't know if this spells the end as I am longterm expressing - DD had tongue tie and was unable to feed..... I have been expressing ten times a day.... Feel like poo.... My first daughter had really bad reaction to the anti biotics I had to have so I gave up with her....I am gutted beyond all belief... Anyone have any methods to chill myself or deal with this please let me know.....

How are you feeling today Kirsty?

HI - I am feeling better thankfully and am much more logical about where I am. Had an appointment with GP today and she says the mastitis is improving - I know this too as my temperature is back to normal. Also she has prescribed thrush treatment in case of any problems there - I am not taking it yet but I have it as a stand by if necessary - obviously I don't want to take it as it will mean more pumping'n'dumping!!! DD3 had colicky reaction to my milk today so I am combine formula with breast to reduce any problems for her..... I am quite relaxed about it... I know I will continue... Also local Feeding consultant from Hospital called today to say that my supply is now established and I should be able to express less often - when mastitis in fully gone. I am feeling a lot more positive! THanks for all of the suggestions.

Glad you are feeling better Kirsty Smile.

Kirsty - I am baffled that your GP would prescribe a drug that s/he has said isn't safe for bfing, to a mum that is bfing, to prevent bfing problems Confused. Which drug is it? If you don't mind me asking that is!

Even Fluconazole doesn't require pumping and dumping (though not rec. as a prophylactic and only to be used if the benefits outweigh the risks in the under 6 weeks [fluc. has a relatively long half life which can mean it can build up in neonates but it's fine for older infants]).

It's good that your temp is down and you are feeling better but I would be very slow to drop pumping sessions in the aftermath of mastitis especially if you have increased pumping to help clear the mastitis. Doesn't mean you can't in time but taking time to drop one session (either by cutting the time spent pumping or by the amount expressed or rejigging the times you pump at - bringing a session forward and bringing one back while cutting back on the session in the middle) will hopefully prevent a re-occurance of mastitis.
