Morning. Had my dd 6 days ago. She's my first. Feeding went well from the start and I feed on demand. Which can be anything from about every hour or so for about 15 mins upwards. She sleeps really well at nights and seems to only wake every 4 hours at night and deeds for about 40 mins. I seem to have plenty of milk and at her first check up she was only 10grams under her initial birth weight. She seems to produce lots of nappies tho, more wee than poo. I reckon about 10 a day. Is this too much? Am I over feeding her? Is she getting too much milk? Or is that nonsense!

Sounds like you're doing just fine.

What are you worried about exactly Confused

Agamumnon · 09/04/2012 11:04

Congratulations :) all sounds completely normal and that you're doing a marvellous job. I'm not an expert, but I don't think you can over-breastfeed newborns. She sounds like she's having a lovely time!

Congratulations by the way.

10 a day is normal. You won't overfeed her, she will stop when she's had enough. Feeding on demand is absolutely the right thing to do as she regulates it herself. She sounds happy and healthy and You are doing a wonderful job. Smile

Congratulations. It sounds like you've got off to a fantastic start. It all sounds really normal. You can't overfeed her - she will stop feeding when she is full. In the early days they do feed all the time to build up your milk supply - clever things!

Wow - you have gold platinum top booby milk - great she has hardly lost any birth weight. Well done!

And 10 nappies a day is perfect for a new baby - well fed and well hydrated.

You are doing amazingly well!!!

feekerry · 09/04/2012 12:04

Okay thanks. I was just worried that she was producing too many nappies and that maybe meant she was having too much milk. I shall continue to be mummy milk cow then!x

Is this a stealth boast? Grin Grin

Don't worry I'm only joking - just so nice to read such a positive experience!

And congratulations on your new dd Thanks

Have a look at what to expect in the first few weeks. One of the first things it says is that you can't feed too often.

It all sounds absolutely fab and congratulations Smile.

I posted exactly this after having DS1, you never hear about what breastfeeding is really like, no wonder so many people give up because they think their babies are always hungry or worried about overfeeding.

Don't think it's possible to give too much breast milk, you are clearly a natural, you should be the proudest woman in the world right now.

Huge congratulations!
